Leicester Win Appeal Against Premier League Charge

Leicester City has successfully won an appeal against a potential points deduction for an alleged breach of Premier League Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules. According to BBC Sport, an independent panel ruled that the Premier League lacked the jurisdiction to penalize the club.

The Premier League expressed its "surprise and disappointment" at the panel’s decision.

Leicester City stated that their appeal was focused on ensuring that the rules are enforced as they are written. The club was initially charged by the Premier League for violating spending regulations. While Leicester appealed the charge, an independent commission initially ruled that the Premier League could take action.

Leicester then appealed this ruling, arguing that the charge was issued while they were still a part of the English Football League (EFL). The final outcome of this appeal was announced on Tuesday.

Under PSR rules, clubs are prohibited from losing more than £105 million over a three-season period. The charges against Leicester pertained to the three-year period ending with the 2022-23 season. However, the club was relegated to the Championship at the end of that season and only filed its accounts after it was no longer a Premier League member.

In contrast, Nottingham Forest and Everton both received point deductions last season after being found in violation of PSR rules.

Ben Bruce: Nigeria to Host Miss Universe 2025 if Chidimma Adetshina Wins

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, Chairman of the Silverbird Group, has announced that Nigeria will host the 2025 Miss Universe beauty pageant if Chidimma Adetshina, the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, wins this year’s competition.

In a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, Bruce assured that the Silverbird Group would do everything in its power to bring the global event to Nigeria next year. He emphasized that the challenges faced during their attempt to host Miss World in Nigeria in 2002 would not be repeated.

Bruce declared that it is time for Nigeria to regain its prominence on the global stage. He stated, "If Chidimma Adetshina wins the Miss Universe crown, The Silverbird Group will spare no effort or expense to bring the 2025 Miss Universe pageant to Nigeria. We’ve learned from the past—those who remember our attempt to host Miss World in Nigeria in 2002 know the challenges we faced. But I want to be clear: what happened then will not happen again. Nigeria is ready to reclaim its rightful place on the global stage, and nothing can stand in our way."

Chidimma Adetshina recently won the Miss Universe Nigeria title after being forced to resign from the Miss South Africa beauty contest due to scrutiny over her nationality.

Palmer Withdraws From England Squad, Returns To Chelsea

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has withdrawn from the England squad ahead of their upcoming Nations League matches and has returned to Stamford Bridge.

The Football Association announced that Phil Foden and Ollie Watkins have also pulled out of the squad. Foden, who was recently named PFA Player of the Year, was called up by interim England manager Lee Carsley but did not join the team due to illness.

Palmer and Watkins initially reported for duty at St George’s Park but have since returned to their respective clubs to continue their recovery from ongoing issues, according to the Football Association.

England is set to face the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Saturday, September 7, followed by a match against Finland at Wembley three days later. These fixtures will be the team's first since their loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final on July 14.

Following that defeat, Gareth Southgate resigned as England manager, and U-21 boss Lee Carsley was appointed as interim manager on August 9.

In his squad selection for the Nations League games, Carsley has called up Angel Gomes, Tino Livramento, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Noni Madueke. All four players were part of the U-21 squad under Carsley’s management.

Additionally, Jack Grealish, who was left out of England’s preliminary Euro 2024 squad, has been recalled along with Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.
