Atiku Abubakar threatens to sue President Buhari’s aide over alleged defamation

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has demanded N500m and a written apology from an aide to President BUHARI on social media, Lauretta Onochie, for spreading what he called lies capable of damaging his reputation.

In a letter addressed to Onochie and signed by Atiku’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, the former Vice-President took issues with Onochie’s post on Twitter which states, ‘Atiku on UAE watch list- Security Sources.

Atiku said he was never on any watch list and challenged Onochie to prove her allegation.

He said he would sue Onochie for 2 billion naira and cyber bullying if she fails to meet his demands.

PRESIDENTIAL POLL TRIBUNAL BEGINS SITTING IN ABUJA

The presidential election petition panel has commenced its inaugural session in Abuja.

Lawyers to the petitioners Alhaji ATIKU ABUBAKAR and his party the Peoples Democratic Party, lawyers to the President and the All Progressive Congress and lawyers to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are all present.

Also present in court is PETER OBI, who was the Vice-Presidential candidate of the PDP in the general elections.

Chairing the opening session is the President of the Appeal Court, Justice ZAINAB BULKACHUWA.

Kaduna State Governor, Mallam NASIR EL-RUFAI, has commissioned a newly established 271 Nigerian Airforce Detachment, Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State to check the increasing activities of bandits and kidnappers terrorizing the area.

PRESIDENT BUHARI ARRIVES NIGERIA AFTER PRIVATE TRIP TO LONDON

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has returned to Abuja after a 10-day private visit to the UK.

 The President’s aircraft landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 6.24 pm yesterday.

 In a statement on the arrival of the President, FEMI ADESINA, his spokesman, said some reckless online media and irresponsible political opposition and individuals, had gone on overdrive since the president left the country on April 25, insinuating that he was going for hospitalization, and would not return after 10 days as stated.

 President BUHARI was believed to have taken a vacation after his re-election campaign, although the classification of his trip as private by his media team led to suggestions that he took a medical leave.
