Onyekuru rejoins Galatasaray till season end

Super Eagles striker, Henry Onyekuru, has joined Turkish side Galatasaray on a six-month loan which lasts until the end of the season from French Ligue 1 side Monaco.

Onyekuru rejoined the club where he played the 2018/19 season on loan from Everton, before joining Monaco for £12.5m in August.

Galatasaray confirmed the deal on their website on Sunday.

“Galatasaray and Monaco have reached an agreement for the temporary transfer of Nigerian footballer Henry Chukwuemeka.

“We would like to welcome Onyekuru, who will wear the jersey No. 70 in our team, to Galatasaray once again and wish him success in his yellow-red career,” the club wrote on their website.

The club said Onyekuru’s signing was a return home, which pleased the supporters, and hoped he signed with the club on a permanent deal.

The Nigerian international had an uneventful spell in Monaco, featuring only four times for the club.

Oshoala hits brace in Barca victory

Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, scored a brace as Barcelona defeated Athletic Club 3-0 in the Spanish Primera Iberdrola on Sunday.

The Nigeria striker, who came in as a 60th minute substitute, doubled her side’s lead in the 77th minute, nodding home from close range.

This was after Mariona Caldentey had given Barca the lead in the 64th minute.

Oshoala scored again four minutes from full time, firing home from a goalmouth scramble to hand Barca a 3-0 victory.

The goals were Oshoala’s ninth and 10th this season, and her third brace for the Spanish club.

The victory took Barca to 40 points from 14 league games, seven points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid on the Primera Iberdrola log.

Their next game will be against Club Deportivo Tacón, which has another Nigerian Osinachi Ohale on Wednesday.

Serena Williams Promises Come Back At Auckland

Serena Williams returns to the Auckland WTA Classic on Monday for the first time since her “miserable” debut appearance three years ago, determined to put the record straight.

“I’m in a really different frame of mind,” she said ahead of her opening match on day one – a marquee doubles appearance partnering Caroline Wozniacki – with her first round singles against long-time rival Svetlana Kuznetsova expected on Tuesday.

The 38-year-old Williams is banking on Auckland setting her up for an unprecedented 24th major title at the Australian Open later in the month.

Williams was way below par when she played in Auckland in 2017, complaining about the windy conditions, being abrupt in interviews and could not wait to get out of the country as soon as she lost in the second round to Madison Brengle.

But she says the anger she felt then has gone.

Despite her quick exit in 2017, Williams went on to win the Australian Open for her 23rd major title, but has not won a tournament since.

Meanwhile, the Auckland tournament has been hit with the late withdrawal of seventh seed Jelena Ostapenko who pulled out for “personal reasons”.

The 22-year-old Latvian, who won the French Open in 2017, is the second high-profile withdrawal with Canadian Bianca Andreescu pulling out last month due to her ongoing knee problems.

Chukwueze Shines In Villarreal’s Comeback Win over Sociedad

Samuel Chukwueze was in top form as he returned to Villarreal’s starting XI in their 2-1 win over Real Sociedad on Sunday at the Anoeta Stadium.

The Winger was brought down inside the box, and after a review by VAR, the Referee reversed his initial “NO Penalty” decision.

Manu Trigueros converted from the spot during the 58th minute to level the scores before substitute Santi Cazorla scored in the 72nd minute what proved to be the winner.

Chukwueze, 20, impressed with a 7.0 rating, registering a shot and completing two dribbles – only Martin Odegaard completed more dribbles (5).

The Nigerian’s goal contributions this season stands at 3 goals, 1 assist, as Villarreal move to 9th in the table.

Villarreal are now on a four-game winning streak and Javier Calleja’s men and are unbeaten in their last five games across all competitions.
