He had been arrested by Interpol on arrival in Dubai on the 11th of November when he went for his for medical check-up and summarily taken into custody.

His arrest followed an Interpol red alert which the Nigerian government had issued against him as part of the ongoing litigation over the controversial Malabu Oil deal.

The arrest warrant upon which Adoke was arrested had long being nullified by the same judge that issued it. But the Nigerian government failed to update Interpol appropriately.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar Says Six-Year Single Tenure Would Halt Desperation Of Politicians.

The former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has decried the rejection of the six-term single tenure proposal by the House of Representatives, insisting that its passage would have halted the desperation of politicians willing to commit any act to secure a second term.

According to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2019 general elections, the six-term single tenure proposal would help curb activities such as electoral malpractices, particularly by incumbents in the executive arm of government, and would allow the elected public officer concentrate on serving the people rather than fighting for his or her personal needs.

The former vice president argued that the current two-term tenure of eight years being practiced cannot be said to provide ample time for elected leaders to fulfil their campaign promise.

He insisted that the current tenure system instead rewards an incompetent incumbent to run for and secure a second term because such a person has access to state resources to utilize during the electioneering process.

EFCC Opposes Orji Kalu’s Request For Bail Over Poor Health Condition.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has explained why convicted former governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu, cannot be granted bail.

Kalu’s counsel, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), had informed the court of a bail application he filed on behalf of the former governor seeking to be released on bail pending the outcome of his appeal against the judgment.

However, EFCC counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), opposed the bail application, stating that such an application pending an appeal is sparingly granted.

On Kalu’s health condition, Jacobs said that there was no recent medical report to show his state of health, arguing that the medical report tendered in his case was done more than a year ago.
