Northern Coalition For Peace And Development Asks The Federal Government To End Banditry.

The Northern Coalition for Peace and Development, has asked the Federal Government to initiate talks with bandits towards ending banditry and other crimes across the country.

The group’s National Secretary, Alhaji Attahiru Adamu, at a press briefing held in Kaduna said that the clamour for the sack of the nation’s service chiefs was unnecessary and would be counterproductive in the fight against insurgency.

He also asked the Federal Government to emulate the governments of Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto states that doused tension in the state by holding talks with bandits.

Attahiru Adamu said majority of those calling for the sack of service chiefs are not sincere as they fail to offer reasonable alternative before now to the President on how to tackle issues of security.

Fresh Moves By The Federal Government And ASUU To Resolve The Lingering Crisis Over IPPIS Hit A Brick Wall.

There are strong indications that fresh moves by the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to resolve the lingering crisis over the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System had again hit a brick wall.

At the resumed negotiation yesterday, it was gathered that the Federal Government again rejected a model, the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, proposed by ASUU as an alternative to the IPPIS.

The Federal Ministry of Education’s Deputy Director of Press, Ben Goong, in an interview confirmed that the government had started negotiations with ASUU.

The Federal Government had last year directed its employees, including university lecturers, to register for the IPPIS, which is a centralized payment system introduced to check fraud.

But ASUU directed its members to shun the directive on the grounds that it negated the principle of university autonomy.
