INEC Set To Present Certificate Of Return To The PDP Candidate Idiri Douye .

INEC is set to present Certificate of Return to the PDP candidate in 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa state, Diri Douye following the Supreme Court ruling.

The hope of Bayelsa State Governor-elect, David Lyon’s to assume of office today as the fifth governor of the state has been dashed by a judgment of the Supreme Court.

There is also uncertainty in the state on whether the PDP candidate in the November 16, 2019 election, Diri Douye has received Certificate of Return as directed by the Supreme Court for him to be be sworn-in today.

Wild jubilation rented the air in Bayelsa State yesterday following the Supreme Court’s nullification of the election of the State governor-elect, David Lyon, and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo.

A five-man panel of the apex court led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to the APC candidates as the winners of the governorship election and issue a fresh Certificate of Return to the candidate of the party with the next highest votes.

By this ruling, the party with the required constitutional spread of votes in the results of the election is the Peoples Democratic Party.

The apex court upheld the November 12, 2019 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which had disqualified Degi-Eremienyo in the election for submitting forged certificates to INEC.

Lawyers to the Peoples Democratic Party and the governorship candidate, Senator Diri Douye react to the judgment

Constitutional Lawyer, Malachy Ugwummadu said the Supreme Court judgment was not to reward the lost of PDP in Imo state.
