El-Zakzaky’s Daughter Defies Federal Government: Says Shi’ites Will Continue Protests

SUHAILA ZAKZAKY, daughter of IBRAHEEM EL-ZAKZAKY, the detained leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has dismissed claims that the group will suspend protest following its proscription by the Federal Government.

 

SUHAILA, who was reacting to a statement from IBRAHIM MUSA, president of the IMN media forum, that the protests have been suspended, said protests will continue until her father is released.

The Edo State House of Assembly has dragged the National Assembly before the Federal High Court, Abuja, over its resolutions ordering a fresh inauguration or threatening assumption of the state legislature’s functions.

 

Speaker, FRANK OKIYE, filed the originating summons and a motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction before Justice NKEONYE MAHA.

 

The Senate and House of Representatives had both ordered GODWIN OBASEKI, Governor of Edo State, to issue a fresh proclamation inaugurating the Edo Assembly within seven days or risk the assembly’s duties been taken over by the National Assembly.

Atiku Abubakar Calls For Probe Of Alleged Secret Burial Of 1000 Soldiers

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23 general elections, ATIKU ABUBAKAR, has demanded a probe be launched into the alleged burial of 1000 soldiers killed by terrorists in the Northeast. 

ATIKU was reacting to an article published by Wall Street Journal, which said about 1000 soldiers had been killed and secretly buried by the President MUHAMMADU BUHARI-led administration. 

In a statement, the former vice-president said it is shocking that such a thing could happen under a democratic government. 

 

The Wall Street Journal quoted senior government and military officials as saying a secret graveyard in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, as well as an official military cemetery in the state, held bodies of at least 1000 soldiers killed while fighting insurgents.

Campaign Against Impunity Makes Fresh Demand For Release Of Detainees In Nigerian Navy Custody

National Coordinator, Campaign Against Impunity, SHINA LOREMIKAN, has made fresh demand for immediate and unconditional release of all detainees in custody of the Nigerian Navy.

 

He also asked the federal government to launch thorough investigation into the detention facilities operated by the Navy in parts of the country.

 

SHINA LOREMIKAN was speaking ahead of the move by the Navy to arraign the detainees today in Lagos.
