EFCC Operatives Raids Epe Home Of Former Governor Of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode

Former governor of Lagos State, AKINWUNMI AMBODE has urged his supporters and the general public to remain calm and law-abiding as there was no cause for alarm.

AMBODE, in a statement by his media aide, HABIB ARUNA, was reacting to the search by the EFCC on his Epe Country home and Parkview Ikoyi residence.

He said the Commission, till date, has not opened any direct communication with him on any issue, adding that he was ready and willing to respond if or when they do so.

Executive Chairman, Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, DEBO ADENIRAN said the EFCC must carry out its exercise without any influence.

It would be recalled that AMBODE, in an earlier response to allegations by the EFCC that it had frozen certain accounts linked to him, insisted that no account of his contained N9.9bn let alone being frozen by the Commission.

Flying Eagles beat South Africa 2-1 to top Group A

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles on Tuesday defeated South Africa 2-1 at the ongoing 12th African Games to secure their first three points.

In the game played at the FAR Sports Complex in Rabat, goals by Collins Sor and Ahmed Ghali ensured Nigeria went top of Group A of the men’s football event at the on-going competition.

Coach Paul Aigbogun made three changes to the lineup that drew 1-1 with Burkina Faso with Adesina Gata coming in for Success Makanjuola, while Liameed Quadri took the place of Samuel Nnoshiri and Mathew Yakubu replaced a crocked Detan Ogundare in goal.

Nigeria started brightly and could have taken the lead but for a plethora of missed chances notably by Sor, Ghali and Saeed Jibril. Sor eventually broke the deadlock in the 27th minute after cooly finishing Saeed Jibril’s pass.

South Africa equalised through Ofentse Mashiane who found space in the Flying Eagles defence to equalise in the 55th minute.

Nigeria coach Aigbogun brought on Success Makanjuola and Chinonso Emeka for Saeed Jibril and Collins Sor and this helped increase the tempo in the Nigeria attack which resulted in the winning goal. Ibrahim Abubakar found space to run at the South African defence and whip in a cross which was met by Ahmad Ghali for his second of the competition and the winner for Nigeria.

The Flying Eagles top the group with four points and will now play hosts Morocco in their last group game on Friday in Rabat

Supreme Court Dismisses Appeal By PDP And Its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar Seeking Access To INEC’s Servers

The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal by the People’s Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, ATIKU ABUBAKAR seeking access to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s sever.

The Justice DATTIJO MUHAMMAD-led five-man panel, in a unanimous judgment, dismissed the appeal, saying there was no basis to interfere with the earlier decision of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal rejecting the appellants’ request to access the said server.

Justice CENTUS NWEZE, who read the lead judgment of the apex court, said the appellants failed to establish that the tribunal wrongfully exercised its discretion in dismissing their request.

Justice CENTUS NWEZE noted that the allegation by the appellants that they were denied fair hearing by the June 24, 2019 ruling of the tribunal was unsubstantiated.

ATIKU and the PDP had alleged in their petition pending before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal that the “authentic” results of February 23, 2019 election which gave them victory were stored in the said INEC server.

August 21, 2019 Serie A coaching shuffle gives Ancelotti’s Napoli hope of toppling Juventus

Serie A coaching shuffle gives Ancelotti’s Napoli hope of toppling Juventus

As the sole survivor of a coaching shuffle among the leading challengers, Carlo Ancelotti could have the best chance to end Napoli’s 30-year wait for the Serie A title.

Yet Antonio Conte’s arrival at Inter Milan has also raised expectations of an end to Juventus’s long domination in the season that kicks off on Saturday.

Serie A runners-up Napoli have not held the Scudetto aloft since Argentine legend Diego Maradona inspired them to their only titles in 1987 and 1990.

Ancelotti’s campaign begins in Fiorentina on Saturday, after Juventus, now coached by Maurizio Sarri, open their quest for a ninth consecutive title in Parma.R

Chinese-owned Inter Milan have also changed coaches with former Juventus and Chelsea boss Conte back home in Italy. Marco Giampaolo takes over at AC Milan and Paulo Fonseca at Roma.

Sarri came close two years ago when he guided Napoli to runners-up spot, just four points behind Juventus, before moving to Chelsea.

At 60, Sarri returns to Italy to coach Juventus as the champions look for a new direction despite five trophy-laden seasons under Massimiliano Allegri.

The decision by Napoli-native Sarri to move north has hurt in his home town.

“For us Neapolitans, that was a betrayal,” said captain Lorenzo Insigne.

“Now we have to try to beat him at all costs.”

Ancelotti embarks on the second year of his three-year contract and wants silverware this campaign.

The 60-year-old has won titles in Europe’s five biggest leagues. His Serie A title came with AC Milan back in 2004.

He arrived in Naples boasting three Champions League trophies from his spells with Milan and Real Madrid, and a Premier League title from his two-year tenure at Chelsea.

The veteran coach insists he has learned from his “transitional” first season.

“We drew back the arrow, now we are ready to fire,” he warned.

Ancelotti has bolstered in all areas with the arrival of defender Kostas Manolas, midfielder Elif Elmas and winger Hirving Lozano.
