President Muhammadu Buhari Embarks on Peace Mission to Mali

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday depart for Bamako, Republic of Mali on a one-day visit, following the briefing by the ECOWAS Special Envoy to the country, former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Nigerian President and some ECOWAS leaders agreed to meet in Mali to engage in further consultations towards finding a political solution to the crisis in the country.

Host President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Presidents Machy Sall of Senegal, Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana and Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire are expected to participate in the Bamako meeting.

Niger Delta Affairs Minister Akpabio Reveals Lawmakers are Major Recipients of NDDC Contracts

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has said most of the contracts in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC are given to members of the National Assembly.

Akpabio said this while appearing before the public investigative hearing of the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC on Monday.

The House is investigating the alleged expenditure of N81.5 billion in five months and other allegations against the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NDDC.

Akpabio’s comments immediately elicited reactions from the legislators, who demanded that the minister provide further explanation of his statement.

NCDC Confirms 562 New COVID-19 Cases, Nigeria’s Toll Now 37,225

A total of 562 new cases of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Nigeria, briging the total number to 37, 225.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC said 102 of the cases were recorded in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 100 in Lagos State, 52 in Plateau State, 50 in Kwara State, 47 in Abia State, 35 in Kaduna State, 34 in Benue State, 26 in Oyo State, 24 in Ebonyi State, 16 in Kano State and 15 in Niger State.

Anambra State recorded 14 cases, 12 in Gombe State, 11 in Edo State, 6 in Rivers State, 5 each in Nasarawa and Delta states, 3 in Borno State, 2 each in Enugu and Bauchi states and 1 in Kebbi State.

However, of the number of persons infected with the virus in Nigeria, 15,333 have been discharged while 21,082 cases are still active with 801 deaths reported so far.

Rotimi Akeredolu Wins Ondo APC Governorship Ticket

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has been declared the winner of the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.

Akeredolu, who is also the incumbent governor of the state defeated his closest rival, Chief Olusola Oke and six other aspirants in the primary; they are Sola Iji, Isaacs Kekemeke, Olaide Adelami, Mrs Jumoke Anifowose, Nathaniel Adojutelegan and Bukola Adetula.

About 3000 delegates from all 18 local governments of Ondo State, participated in the indirect primary held at International Centre, The Dome, Akure.

In the result announced by Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello who is also the chairman of the governorship primary election committee, Akeredolu garnered 2,458 votes, while his closest rival Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, won just 262 votes to come second.
