NCDC Confirms 14 New Cases of COVID-19; AS Cases Rise to 288 in Nigeria

Fourteen new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the country by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections recorded in the country so far to 288.

The NCDC confirmed the latest figure which rose from 276 in a tweet last night.

13 of the new cases were recorded in Lagos while the other one is in Delta state.

Further breakdown of cases by states shows Lagos- 158, FCT- 54, Osun- 20, Edo- 12, Oyo- 11, Bauchi- 6, Akwa Ibom- 5, Ogun- 4, Kaduna- 5, Enugu- 2, Ekiti- 2, Rivers, Kwara, Dealta with 2 cases each while Benue, Ondo and  Katsina with 1 case each.

According to the NCDC, fifty-one patients have been discharged with seven deaths so far recoded from COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) have expressed their support for the plan to supply Nigerians free electricity for two months.

The proposal is one of the palliative measures being considered by the National Assembly, to reduce hardship on Nigerians, in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic, which has affected economic activities.

Executive director, Research and Advocacy Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), SUNDAY ODUNTAN confirmed the DisCOs’ support for the move in Abuja.

Lagos discharges seven recovered COVID-19 patients

The Lagos Government says it has discharged seven patients from one of the state treatment centres, Mainland Hospital, in Yaba area of the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced this via his verified Twitter handle @jidesanwoolu.

He said, “Good people of Lagos, I bring you awesome news from IDH, Yaba, which is as a testament to our resolve to overcome the lethal #COVID19 pandemic ravaging the world. Today, we discharged seven more patients who have fully recovered and tested negative twice consecutively for #COVID19. This brings to 39 the number of discharged patients in Lagos.”

The patients include one female and six males; three of the discharged male patients are foreign nationals — two Ukrainians and one Italian.

Nigeria records 22 new cases of COVID-19, as toll rises to 276

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has confirmed 22 fresh cases of the deadly coronavirus in Nigeria, as of 9;00 pm on April 8th.

15 cases are in Lagos, 4 in the FCT, 2 in Bauchi and 1 in Edo state to bring the total number of cases to 276.

A breakdown of the cases in each of the states shows that Lagos now has 145 cases, the FCT Abuja 54, Osun 20, Edo 12, Oyo 11, Bauchi 8, Akwa-Ibom and Kaduna 5 each, 4 in Ogun, 2 each in Enugu, Ekiti, Kwara and Rivers states; while Ondo, Benue, Katsina and Delta states have 1 case each.
