Court Orders Omoyele Sowore’s Release.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the immediate release of OMOYELE SOWORE, the convener of #RevolutionNow from the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS).

Ruling, Justice TAIWO TAIWO said he should be released to his lawyer, FEMI FALANA who will produce him in court for arraignments.

The judge, however, said since charges had already been filed against the activist, he must deposit his passport and other travel documents to guarantee his availability for trial.

Iheanacho eyes first start, Iwobi targets second goal

Kelechi Iheanacho is one of the fringe Leicester City players expected to feature for the Foxes when they face Luton Town in Tuesday’s (today) third round Carabao Cup clash.

The Nigeria striker is yet to play a single minute of competitive football this season, for both club and country.

He has been regularly left out of matchday squads, most recently on the weekend, and that’s despite enjoying a decent pre-season where he scored three goals in four games.

The 23-year-old has made eight appearances in the Carabao Cup competition and has scored four goals

At the Bramall Lane, Alex Iwobi heads into their Carabao Cup third round tie against Sheffield Wednesday under pressure following the 2-0 shock defeat at home to Sheffield United.

Iwobi, who scored in his first start in the competition against Lincoln in August, will be gunning for his second (third goal of the season) after firing blanks in his last two games against Bournemouth and Sheffield United.

Oghenekaro Etebo will hope to make his second Carabao Cup appearance for Stoke City when they face Crawley Town.

Etebo made his debut in the competition against Huddersfield in their 2-0 win last season. The duo Leon Balogun and Isaac Success will miss their respective teams’ third round ties due to injuries.

CAN CHUKWUEZE BE A THORN IN THE FLESH FOR BARCELONA?

Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze, and his Villarreal teammates will be aiming to compound the woes of Barcelona on Tuesday (today) in La Liga when they face the Catalan giants at the Camp Nou, Sports Extra reports.

The Spanish champions suffered a 2-0 loss at Granada on Saturday night to stay in eighth position in the table – one spot and one point behind Villarreal, who have made a solid start to the 2019-20 campaign.

Barca’s loss at Granada on Saturday means the Spanish champions have made their worst start to a league season for 25 years and Chukwueze, who has scored once and provided an assist in four La Liga games, will be looking forward to adding to his tally in the encounter.

The last clash between Villarreal and Barca finished 4-4 at the Estadio de la Ceramica last season with the 20-year-old a thorn in the flesh of the Catalan giants, scoring one and providing an assist in the eight-goal thriller.

Should Chukwueze score a goal, it will be his 10th for Villarreal in 43 games (seventh La Liga goal in 31 games) since he broke into the first team.

Elsewhere, Ramon Azeez will be looking to build on his impressive start in La Liga this season, when Granada travel to the José Zorrilla Stadium, to face Real Valladolid.

Azeez equaled his best goal tally of two in the La Liga this season after scoring barely two minutes as Granada shocked Barcelona with a 2-0 win on Saturday.

September 24, 2019 DENNERBY SNUBS NFF, SPORTS MINISTER.

DENNERBY SNUBS NFF, SPORTS MINISTER.

Super Falcons coach, Thomas Dennerby, did not appear at a meeting expected to hold between him, officials of the Nigeria Football Federation and Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare, during the weekend.

Dennerby was expected in Abuja on Saturday for a face-to-face meeting to discuss his future but the meeting did not hold.

Our correspondent gathered that the minister earlier met the NFF board members on Friday with the hope of taking a position ahead of Dennerby’s meeting.

“The outcome of the meeting with Dennerby is expected to decide whether the 60-year-old tactician will continue or quit his Super Falcons post,”

However, spokesperson of the NFF, Ademola Olajire, said the coach has an option of appearing next week Monday.

According to him, the absence of Dennerby will not affect the women’s national team performance in their forthcoming 2020 Olympics qualifiers against Ivory Coast.

“He was given two options – to come last weekend or to come next Monday. He could not make it last weekend. We are expecting him to make it next Monday.

“His absence is not affecting the team’s performance. The U-20 coaching crew are there. They are doing a very good job,” the NFF spokesperson told our correspondent on the telephone.

Few days after his absence for the meeting, there were reports that the Swede may be appointed as the India U-17 women’s team head coach.

But the coach debunked the report saying, “I am still under contract with Nigeria and currently focused on sorting out my future before thinking about what is next for me.”
