NCDC reports 91 fresh COVID-19 patients, total cases in Nigeria now 873

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 91 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.

The centre said in a tweet that 74 of those cases were found in Lagos while five were recorded in Katsina and four in Ogun.

 Delta and Edo states recorded two cases while Kwara, Oyo, Abuja and Adamawa had one each.

 The fresh cases take the total tally to 873 with 197 recoveries and 28 deaths.

Lagos Records 2 More Covid-19 Deaths

The  Lagos state government has confirmed the death of two more COVID-19 patients at its isolation centres.

The state Commissioner for Health, Professor AKIN ABAYOMI, who made the disclosure via his verified Twitter handle, said the fatalities involved a male and a female.

He explained that one of the new deaths was a 45-year-old Nigerian man who returned from India in January.

The second death according to him was a 36-year-old Nigerian woman who had a severe underlying health condition.

The Commissioner stated that the patient had no history of travel or contact with any confirmed case of coronavirus.

Nothern Governors Ban Almajiri System, Call For More Covid-19 Testing Centres.

Northern state governors have banned the Almajiri system for fear the children could be exposed to Coronavirus.

They vowed never to allow the system persist any longer because of the social challenges associated with it including the perpetuation of poverty, illiteracy, insecurity and social disorder.

The Governors during the second meeting in one month via teleconferencing yesterday also called for more COVID-19 testing centres in the north.

The meeting was presided over by the Northern States Governors Forum Chairman, Governor SIMON LALONG of Plateau state.

The Governors unanimously decided to ban the Almajiri system and evacuate the children to their parents or states of origin.

Tension As Covid-19 Cases in Kano Rise AS FG warns against Fake Kano Vaccine

The Federal Government has expressed worry over the rising cases of Coronavirus in Kano State.

The Minister of State for Health, Dr. OLORUNNIBE MAMORA, expressed this worry in Abuja at the media briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

He however said the Federal Government would increase its support for the highly populated state, to stop the spread of the virus.

On his part, the Minister of Information, LAI MOHAMMED has asked Nigerians, to disregard reports that a vaccine for COVID-19 has been found, in Kano State.

On his part, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID 19, SANI ALIYU, said the team has its eyes on Kano.
