COVID-19: Sokoto Records 3 New Deaths

Three new deaths from Coronavirus have been recorded in Sokoto State.

Governor, AMINU TAMBUWAL, last night announced the death of three, out of the 10 people who tested positive for coronavirus in the state.

The Governor said all three victims had histories of other diseases such as diabetes, asthma, and high blood pressure.

Sokoto recorded its index case on April 19, the second case was discovered on April 23, while the results of eight others who had contact with the index case turned out positive on April 26.

Nigeria Records 195 New Cases of Covid-19; Totaling 1,532

Nigeria now has 1,532 cases of Coronavirus after it recorded new 195 infections.

It is the highest number so far recorded daily in the country.

According to a tweet by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, of the new infections, 80 were recorded in Lagos, 38 in Kano, while 15 in Ogun State.

In Bauchi State, 15 cases were recorded, 11 in Borno, 10 in Gombe, 9 in Sokoto, 5 in Edo and Jigawa, 2 in Zamfara and 1 each in Rivers, Enugu, Delta, FCT and Nasarawa.

Lagos remain the epic centre of the virus in Nigeria with 844 cases, FCT 158 and Kano 115.

Total discharged is 255 while the number of deaths stands at 44.

CLO: 300 Stranded Nigerians Face Starvation in China

The Civil Liberties Organisation has raised alarm that 300 Nigerian businessmen and women who are stranded in the Chinese business capital, Guangzhou, are facing starvation.

The human rights group said the citizens complained that they no longer had money to pay for their hotel accommodation and feeding.

The stranded Nigerians are among the over 2,000 individuals awaiting evacuation from foreign countries.

The Federal Government said it was working to set up isolation centres where they would be quarantined on arrival.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, GEOFFREY ONYEAMA, had also said Abuja and Lagos hotels declined the request to lodge the returning Nigerians.

But the Executive Director of the CLO, IBUCHUKWU EZIKE, in a statement said his office had been inundated with calls and appealed to the President to have compassion on them and their families.

The Executive Chairman, Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate, NELSON EKUJUMI supports the call by the CLO.

COVID-19: Kano begins contact tracing of five Almajiri who tested positive in Kaduna

The Kano State government says it has begun contact tracing of five Almajiri children, who tested positive for Coronavirus in Kaduna State.

Kaduna State government had on Monday, announced that five of the 195 Almajiri children evacuated from Kano tested positive to the virus.

Kano State Commissioner of Education, Muhammad Sanusi said the government will conduct contact tracing of Almajiri schools where the affected children were evacuated to their states of origin.
