NCDC Records 195 News Cases of Covid-19, Rises 3,145

 A total of 195 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been confirmed in Nigeria, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed late Wednesday.

In a post on its Twitter handle, the centre said 82 of the cases were recorded in Lagos State, 30 in Kano State, 19 in Zamfara State, 18 in Sokoto State, 10 in Borno State, nine in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and eight in Oyo State.

Five cases each were reported in Kebbi and Gombe states, four in Ogun State, three in Katsina State and one in Kaduna and Adamawa states respectively.

Five new deaths were also reported.

Court Grants Ex-Minister, Turaki bail

A federal high court in Abuja has granted bail to a former minister of special duties and inter-governmental affairs, TANIMU TURAKI.

 

TURAKI alongside three others were arraigned on Monday on a 16-count charge bordering on unlawful and criminal misappropriation of funds.

 

The EFCC alleged that the former minister used the two companies belonging to his aide to illegally transfer funds.

 

Having taken a “not guilty” plea, JOE GAZAMA, TURAKI’s lawyer, asked the court to grant bail to his client and was unopposed by the EFCC.

 

Presiding judge, Justice INYANG EKWO, granted the defendants bail on self-recognition and on the same conditions granted to them in the administrative bail by the EFCC.

 

The judge adjourned the matter till June 22 for trial.

NCDC: FG May order Another Lockdown if Cases Explodes

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC says the Federal Government may be compelled to re-impose a total lockdown if there is an explosion of confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus COVID-19 in the country.

Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. CHIKWE IHEKWEAZU stated this in reaction to occurrences on the first day of easing of the lockdown order by the Federal Government at the daily press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday.

Dr. IHEKWEAZU said the reports the PTF got on Monday regarding compliance with safety directives such as social distancing in the three locations was unimpressive.

On his part, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 believes one of the best ways for Nigerians to guard against being infected with Coronavirus is to stay at home.

The Chairman of the Task Force, BOSS MUSTAPHA insists that the ban on interstate movement is still in force adding violators of other guidelines will be arrested and prosecuted.

Nigeria Records 245 New Cases; Infections; Total Infections 2,802

Nigeria has recorded 245 new cases of  Coronavirus, the highest it has recorded in a single day.

With the sharp increase, the country now has a total of 2,802 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.

In the figures released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Lagos recorded a sharp increase, ramping up 76 new infections, while Katsina recorded 37 new cases.

Jigawa also recorded a sharp increase in infections, raking in 32 new cases, while Kano has 23 new infections.

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, followed, ramping up 19 new cases; Borno, 18; Edo, 10; Bauchi, nine; Adamawa, six; Oyo and Ogun, five cases each while Ekiti, Osun, Benue, Niger and Zamfara have one case each.

417 patients have been discharged:  while 93 deaths have been recorded.
