Nigeria Announces 184 New Cases of COVID-19, Total Infections Now 4,971

Nigeria is now getting close to the 5,000 mark of Coronavirus cases as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 184 new cases in its latest report.

This brings the total infections in the country to 4,971.

The NCDC confirmed the new figures in a tweet on May 13, 2020.

According to the NCDC, 51 new cases were found in Lagos, 23 in Jigawa, 16 in Bauchi, 14 in Kano, 10 in the FCT, and 10 in Rivers.

Kwara state reported 9 new cases, Delta and Kaduna each had 5 new cases, Sokoto and Oyo had 4 cases; the trio of Kebbi, Nasarawa and Osun reported 3 new cases; Ondo had 2 new cases, while Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Anambra, Plateau and Niger all recorded one fresh case each.

1, 070 patients have been discharged while Nigeria has so far recorded 164 deaths from the Coronavirus.

Nigeria Records 146 New Cases of Covid-19; Totaling 4,787

Nigeria has recorded 146 new cases of coronavirus, bringing its total infections in the country to 4,787.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in a tweet last night confirmed the new cases.

Of the 146 cases, the NCDC said 57 were from Lagos, 27 from Kano, 10 in Kwara, 9 in Edo, 8 in Bauchi, 7 in Yobe, and 4 each in Kebbi and Oyo states.

Other states with new cases include Katsina and Niger, each with 3 cases, Borno, Sokoto, and Benue, with 2 cases each; recording one case each were Gombe, Enugu, Ebonyi, Ogun, Rivers and the FCT.

959 patients have been treated and discharged while 158 deaths recorded in the country so far.

EFCC Arrests Two Chinese For Offering N100m Bribe To Sokoto Zonal Head

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested two Chinese for offering the sum of N100m as bribe to the Zonal head of the anti-graft agency in Sokoto State, Mr. ABDULLAHI LAWAL.

The EFCC in a series of tweets yesterday said that the Chinese men arrested on Monday in Sokoto state would be charged to court soon.

According to the EFCC, the sum was allegedly offered in a desperate bid to compromise ongoing investigations of a Chinese construction company which was handling N50bn contracts awarded by Zamfara State Government between 2012 and 2019.

The zonal office of the Commission is investigating the construction company, in connection with the construction of township roads in Gummi, Bukkuyun, Anka and Nassarawa towns; and also the construction of 168 solar-powered boreholes in the 14 local government areas of the state.

On Monday, it was reported that the two representatives of the company MENG WEI KUN and XU KUOI offered ABDULLAHI LAWAL N50m in first installment in their office along airport road, Sokoto.

Buhari Appoints Ibrahim Gambari As New Chief of Staff

Renowned Diplomat, Professor IBRAHIM GAMBARI has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff to President MUHAMMADU BUHARI.

His appointment was announced today by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, BOSS MUSTAPHA, before the commencement of the Virtual Federal Executive Council meeting at the Villa, Abuja.

He served as Minister for External Affairs between 1984 and 1985 when BUHARI was the Military Head of State.

76 year-old GAMBARI, an indigene of Kwara State, replaced ABBA KYARI who died on April 17 from coronavirus-related complications.

President BUHARI is currently presiding over a virtual Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
