Federal Government Extends Gradual Easing of Lockdown by Two Weeks

The Federal Government has extended the gradual easing of Coronavirus lockdown by two weeks across the nation.

Chairman, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, at a briefing said the nation was not ready for full re-opening of the economy.

Mustapha said the outcomes of the first phase of the eased lockdown had been mixed, saying that while some objectives were met, the assessment showed that non-compliance was rampant.

He explained that the extension of the first phase of the lockdown ease was to enable other segments of the economy to prepare adequately for compliance with the guidelines, preparatory to reopening in the coming weeks.

Nigeria’s COVID-19 Toll Exceeds 6,000 as NCDC Confirms 216 New Cases

A total of 216 new cases of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Nigeria.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, 74 of the cases were recorded in Lagos State, 33 in Katsina State, 19 in Oyo State, 17 in Kano State, 13 in Edo State, 10 in Zamfara State, and eight in Ogun, Gombe and Borno states respectively.

7 cases each were recorded in Bauchi and Kwara states, 4 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 3 each in Kaduna and Enugu states and 2 in Rivers State.

The Presidency has said President BUHARI will no longer make any broadcast on COVID -19 updates to the nation today.

His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, FEMI ADESINA, made this known this afternoon via his Twitter handle.

ADESINA said the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, BOSS MUSTAPHA, would update the nation during its briefings.

But the National Coordinator of the Task Force, Dr. SANI ALIYU after a meeting with the President last night announced that he will address the nation on the development from May 4 when he eased the lockdown in the FCT, Lagos and Ogun states.

Lagos State begins 2nd Phase Of Gradual Ease of Lockdown

The Lagos state Government is considering the re-opening of more businesses as well as religious outfits in the state.

Governor BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU, disclosed this to newsmen as the state begins the second phase of gradual ease of the lockdown after the State Security Council meeting at the Lagos House, Marina.

He said government officials will be visiting churches, mosques, and companies to evaluate their preparedness to fully reopen.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Health Professor AKIN ABAYOMI announced that three among the returnees from Dubai isolated in Lekki area of the state have tested positive for COVID-19.
