Late Army Chief Lagbaja Set to Be Laid to Rest on Friday

The late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, will be laid to rest in Abuja on Friday. His elder brother, Moshood Lagbaja, shared this during a condolence visit from the St. Charles Grammar School Osogbo Old Boys Association (SCOBA) in Osogbo, Osun State. He explained that, while the military cannot release the remains to the family, they assured him of a dignified military burial in Abuja.

The SCOBA delegation, led by 1st Vice President Engineer Adesina Salami, delivered a condolence letter from the Global President of SCOBA, Tade Adekunle, and General Secretary, Leye Odetoyinbo. Salami spoke fondly of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, honoring him as a proud Charlean and a distinguished military leader.

"We mourn the loss of an exceptional individual, a proud Charlean, and a dedicated military leader who served our nation with unwavering commitment," Salami expressed. "Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s remarkable life, selfless service, and enduring legacy inspire us all. He made an unforgettable impact on the Charlean family worldwide."

Salami offered words of comfort to the family, praying for God’s peace and strength during this challenging time. "May the cherished memories of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s love, wisdom, and accomplishments bring solace to your hearts, and may his exemplary life continue to inspire future generations."

Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Fred Itua as the Chief Press Secretary for his administration. The announcement, made by Okpebholo’s media team in Abuja on Monday, marks his first official appointment ahead of the inauguration and transition from Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration, set for Tuesday.

Itua, a seasoned journalist with previous experience at Leadership and The Sun newspapers, will lead the governor’s media team. 2024 MTV EMAs: Tyla Shines While Nigerian Artists Miss Out

South African sensation Tyla stole the spotlight at the 30th MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester, United Kingdom, on Sunday, taking home three major awards. She claimed the Best Afrobeats Artist title, triumphing over Nigerian stars Asake, Tems, Rema, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr.

Tyla also took home the Best African Act award, beating nominees Ayra Starr, Asake, DBN Gogo, TitoM & Yuppe, and Diamond Platnumz. For her third win of the night, she secured the Best R&B Artist award, standing out among global stars like Kehlani, SZA, Tinashe, Usher, and Victoria Monét. Tyla capped her triumphant night with an acoustic performance of her hit song "Water."

Meanwhile, Nigerian artist Ayra Starr, nominated in four categories—Best African Act, Best New Artist, Best Afrobeats Artist, and Best Push—did not take home any awards.

This victory adds to Tyla's impressive year, following her win at the Grammys for Best African Music Performance and her Best Afrobeats Artist win at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, where she also surpassed several Nigerian artists.
