NPFL: Kwara take over Delta Force slot

Kwara United have taken over the slot of Delta Force FC in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

With this, after a match in the 2019/20 Nigeria National League, Kwara will play in the topflight.

They will continue from week six, after formal registration of the club following the take-over.

Delta Force earlier acquired Kada City of Kaduna State before the start of the current NPFL season.

Kwara in a statement on Thursday said the agreement was sealed after a thorough discussion between the management of the two sides in Delta State, with the General Manager of Kwara, Bashir Badawiy, leading the North Central club’s negotiation team.

Kwara chairman, Clement Titiloye, said that the club was aware of the challenges of doing so, saying; “It’s a development that the stakeholders will also want to support.”

Titiloye commended the Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his support and encouragement.

“We are conscious of the challenges that will come with this massive decision, but we know it’s a situation that is redeemable, as the NPFL is just starting,” he said.

Delta are currently in 17th position on the NPFL log with four points after five matches, winning just a game, one drawn three lost three, with minus five goals difference.

Kwara got relegated at the end of last season, and was drawn in Group A2 of the on-going NNL alongside Niger Tornadoes, FC Taraba, Sokoto United, El-Kanemi Warriors, Gombe United, Yobe Desert Stars, Rarara FC, Mighty Jets, EFCC and Real Stars.

AMUNIKE APPLIES FOR ZAMBIA JOB

Former Nigeria winger Emmanuel Amunike wants to return to management and has confirmed his application for the vacant Zambia national team job.

Amunike, who left his position as coach of Tanzania’s Taifa Stars following a dismal showing at the 2019 AFCON, has since been out of job.

The 48-year-old said he hoped to build on the success of helping Tanzania reach the AFCON.

“I applied and did all we were asked to present and now we wait. I’m not sure if I I’m the preferred candidate for the job, but we’ll wait to see.

“In football, as a manager, you want to move and grow and I have moved on from Tanzania, where we set up a structure and hopefully, they can build on it despite losing all our games at the AFCON in Egypt.

“The Tanzania journey has come and gone and now we’re looking for bigger challenges,” the 2015 U-17 World Cup winner told Brila.
