President Buhari Condemns Borno Killings, Charges Military to Extract Heavy Price from Terrorists

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the Nigerian military to “extract a heavy price” from Boko Haram/Islam in West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents following the recent wave of terror attacks and killings in Borno State.

President Buhari gave the charge to the military while reacting to the Borno attacks, according to a statement issued by Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.

Boko Haram insurgents on Tuesday killed over 70 persons at Faduma Koloram village in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.

However, the President condemned the attacks, describing it as shocking.

He also expressed the sincere condolences of the government and people of Nigeria to the bereaved families, communities and the government and people of Borno State.

Nigeria Records 409 New Cases of Coronavirus, Total Now 13,873

Nigeria has confirmed 409 new cases of the novel coronavirus.

Confirming the cases on its official Twitter handle, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) stated that 201 of the cases are in Lagos, FCT- 85, Delta- 22, Edo-16, Nasarawa- 14, Borno- 14, Kaduna- 14, Bauchi-10, Rivers-9, Enugu- 5, Kano- 5, Ogun- 4, Ondo- 4, Bayelsa-2, Kebbi- 2 Plateau- 2.

With the latest figure, the total number of confirmed cases has hit 13,873 in the country with 4,351 discharged and 382 deaths.

El-Rufai Orders Reopening of Worship Centres in Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor, NASIR EL-RUFAI, has ordered the reopening of worship centres across the state.

He, however, directed that the worship centers should conduct their services only on specific days.

The governor gave the directives in a state-wide broadcast, saying the reopening of worship centres would be subjected to compliance with safety guidelines and stipulations.

Governor EL-RUFAI announced that the amended Quarantine Order would take effect from today, June 10.

Nigeria Records Highest Coronavirus Case As NCDC Announces 663 New Infections

Nigeria has recorded 663 new Coronavirus case in 25 states and the FCT.

The figure is the highest daily recorded in Nigeria since the outbreak in February and brings the total number of confirmed cases to 13,464.

According to the NCDC, Lagos State recorded the highest number of infections for the day with 170 cases while Ogun and Bauchi had 108 and 69 cases respectively.

Further breakdown of the new cases showed that Ebonyi State had 49 infections, Edo (33), Rivers (30), FCT (29), Jigawa (26) and Delta (20).

Others are Anambra (17), Gombe (16), Kano (16), Imo (15), Abia (14), Borno (11), Oyo (11), Plateau (8), Kebbi (6), Kaduna (6), Ondo (4).

Niger and Katsina had 2 cases each while Osun, Ekiti, Kwara and Nasarawa recorded 1 case apiece.

Of the number of positive cases in Nigeria so far, 4,206 persons have fully recovered and have been discharged while 365 persons have died.
