Power Distribution Companies Set April 1 For The Kick-Off Of New Electricity Tariffs.

Power distribution companies have declared that the new electricity tariffs shall become enforceable from April 1, this year.

 

Speaking through their umbrella body, Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors, the Discos explained that the new tariffs ordered by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission would cater for revenue shortfalls in the sector.

 

In a tariff review clarification notice sent by the spokesperson of ANED, Sunday Oduntan the Discos said the tariffs shall remain as they had been since 2015 but would change from April 2020.

 

According to him, there will be a slight increment to cater for tariff shortfalls which shall be gradually passed on to the consumer until this is fully completed by the end of 2021.

 

The Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, James Momoh made this clarification on the issue.

Us Embassy Cautions Citizens To Reconsider Travelling To Nigeria.

The United States has cautioned Americans to reconsider travelling to or across Nigeria.

The caution followed the Friday killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in a drone airstrike ordered by President Donald Trump.

 

The US Embassy in Nigeria, in a statement on its website, admonished American citizens to review their personal security measures, be prudent and keep a low profile.

 

Stating that it had no specific security threat information, the mission advised US nationals in Nigeria to stay alert in public places, including schools, hospitals, government facilities, places of worship, tourist locations, and transportation hubs.

 

Security Expert, retired Col. Hassan Stan-Labo said the security alert from the US is in order.

Already, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has placed Police Commands and Formations nationwide on red alert.

Presidency Says President Buhari Will Not Handpick Successor.

The Presidency has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will not manipulate the process to pick a successor ahead of the 2023 Presidential elections.

 

The response follows a call by the Senior Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare, who urged the president to be involved in the choice of his successor in order not destroy his legacies.

 

Speaking on a monitored programme, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, stressed that contrary to call, President Buhari will ensure that the process is free, fair and credible.

 

He added that though the president is interested in who would succeed him, but will not pick a successor.

 

Adesina also stressed that the president will ensure that his successor builds on the gains of his administration and will not allow looters to find their way to power.

Onyekuru rejoins Galatasaray till season end

Super Eagles striker, Henry Onyekuru, has joined Turkish side Galatasaray on a six-month loan which lasts until the end of the season from French Ligue 1 side Monaco.

Onyekuru rejoined the club where he played the 2018/19 season on loan from Everton, before joining Monaco for £12.5m in August.

Galatasaray confirmed the deal on their website on Sunday.

“Galatasaray and Monaco have reached an agreement for the temporary transfer of Nigerian footballer Henry Chukwuemeka.

“We would like to welcome Onyekuru, who will wear the jersey No. 70 in our team, to Galatasaray once again and wish him success in his yellow-red career,” the club wrote on their website.

The club said Onyekuru’s signing was a return home, which pleased the supporters, and hoped he signed with the club on a permanent deal.

The Nigerian international had an uneventful spell in Monaco, featuring only four times for the club.
