14 new positive Coronavirus cases in latest Premier League testing

The Premier League has confirmed 14 positive coronavirus tests among players and staff in its latest round of testing.

The figure, taken after 1,483 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19, is an increase of four from last week’s results.

Players or club staff who have tested positive will self-isolate for a period of 10 days.

Newcastle United’s training ground remains closed following last week’s outbreak of coronavirus within the first-team squad.

Saturday’s home match against West Brom will be in serious doubt unless a significant number can get back to the training ground and prepare as a group this week.

The fact that Newcastle were unable to train as a group ahead of last Friday’s planned trip to Aston Villa was one of the key reasons as to why that match was postponed.

It was the first Premier League match to be postponed as a result of coronavirus since Project Restart.

In a chat with her fans during her trip to Abuja, the reality TV star said the reason she declined to be part of the group was that she doesn’t want any problems.

“They approached me and I told them no I don’t want to be there. I don’t see the need to be pretending or be in a space with people who… I don’t like wahala.” she said.

President Buhari warns against any act of hooliganism hiding behind peaceful protests

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has sounded a strong note of warning that his government will deal decisively with “any act of hooliganism hiding behind peaceful protests.”

He said although his administration believed in the rights of citizens to embark on peaceful protests, such must be done responsibly.

The President issued this strong warning while virtually declaring open the Chief of Army Staff’s Annual Conference 2020 from the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He regretted the violence that trailed the last EndSARS protests hijacked by hoodlums which resulted in loss of lives and property in across the country.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, FEMI ADESINA, later released a statement quoting BUHARI as describing 2020 as a very challenging year.

#Endsars: Armed policemen drafted to the Lekki toll gate as state police command vows not to allow any second wave of protests

Armed policemen have been drafted to the Toll Gate on Lekki-Epe Expressway.

This may not be unconnected with the alleged return of EndSARS protesters to the area.

You will recall that the Toll gate was the epic centre of the last EndSARS protest in Lagos state which later turned violent after being hijacked by hoodlums.

The Lagos State Police Command has therefore warned against any gathering, procession or protest today in the metropolis saying it has uncovered plans by some unpatriotic individuals to embark on the replica of the recent EndSARS protest.

Spokesman of the Command, MUYIWA ADEJOBI in a statement said they have reliably gathered that certain individuals/groups have concluded plans to lure unsuspecting youths, into their planned protest at designated locations in the state.

The Command also warned parents and guardians to discourage their children and wards from being lured into any act, gathering or protest capable of causing break down of law and order and violence in the state.

In an interview with Inspiration fm, a lawyer to EndSARS protesters, ADESHINA OGUNLANA said Nigerians have the rights under the constitution to protest.
