Suicide Bombers Attack A Mosque In Gwoza, Borno State.

Two female suicide bombers have attacked a mosque in Gwoza, Borno state, killing a 12-year-old boy and injuring thirteen others.

 

It was gathered that the female bombers tried to force their way into the mosque during the early morning prayers before some persons in the neighborhood raised an alarm.

 

Some residents suspect that the suicide bombers might have infiltrated the town during a wedding which held at the palace of the Emir of Gwoza on Saturday.

 

Police authorities in the state say the area has been cordoned off while soldiers from 192 Battalion have been deployed there.

 

Borno state has been the worst hit in the resurgence of Boko haram attacks in the Northeast dates back to 2009.

Basketball Legend Kobe Bryant Dies In Helicopter Crash.

US basketball Legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash in the city of Calabasas, California.

 

Bryant, 41, was travelling in a private helicopter with his daughter and seven others when it came down and burst into flames.

 

US President Donald Trump in a tweet said Kobe Bryant despite being more than a truly great basket ball player of all time, was just getting started in life.

 

He said he loved his family so much and had such strong passion for the future.

 

According to Trump, the loss of his beautiful daughter Giana makes this moment even more devastating.

 

For former US president Barrack Obama tweeting, Kobe was a legend on t he court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act.

 

Bryant, a five-time NBA champion, played for the LA Lakers throughout his career and is considered one of the greatest players in the game’s history.

 

Moments of silence have been observed at basketball games across the US.

 

Bryant has also been remembered at the Grammy Awards which are being held at the Los Angeles Lakers’ stadium.

 

The NBA issued a statement saying it was “devastated by the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna” aged 13.

Death Toll From Lassa Fever In Eleven States Across The Country Rises To 38.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed the increase in the number of Lassa fever cases reported in the country since the beginning of the year.

 

 

Between the 1st and the 19th of January, a total of 398 suspected cases were reported from eleven states across the country, leading to 38 deaths.

 

 

This figure is expected to rise as more states have reported cases of the disease.

 

 

The disease occurs all year round but more cases are usually recorded during the dry season that is November through May.

 

 

Lassa fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic fever caused by Lassa virus. The natural carrier of the virus is the multimammate rat, but, the disease is also spread through human to human transmission.

 

 

The early stages of Lassa fever, present symptoms similar to febrile illness such as malaria.

 

 

 

Lassa fever is spread through: Direct contact with urine, faeces, saliva or blood of infected rodents.

 

 

And also Ingesting food and drinks contaminated with urine, faeces, saliva or blood of infected rats.

Federal Government And South-West Governors Agrees On A Legal Solution For Operation Amotekun.

The Federal Government and South-West governors have agreed that Operation Amotekun should be structured to align with the community policing strategy of the federal government.

 

This was disclosed after the Vice-President; Yemi Osinbajo met with governors of the South-West, the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and the Inspector General of Police at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

 

According to a statement from the Office of the Vice President, the meeting was at the instance of the Governors who had asked to see President Buhari over the controversy surrounding the Amotekun Initiative.

 

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Chairman, South West Governors and Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu said it was agreed that the South-West states should give legal backing to the initiative.
