Kaduna state Extends Lockdown by 30 days

Kaduna State Government has extended the COVID-19 lockdown by thirty days.

Governor NASIR EL-RUFAI disclosed this via a Twitter handle.

He however said people that venture out of their homes for whatever reason must wear facemasks and observe social distancing everywhere they go.

According to him, the state Government is making efforts to provide facemasks for poor and vulnerable residents.

Governor NASIR EL-RUFAI added that Mobile courts have been empowered by the Quarantine Orders to try violators and impose the prescribed penalties, including fines and imprisonment upon conviction.

NCDC Confirms 91 New Cases; Rises to 1,273

The number of people infected with Coronavirus in the country has risen to 1,273 after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced new 91 cases last night.

According to the NCDC in a tweet via its official handle, 43 of the new infections were recorded in Lagos, 8 in Sokoto, 6 in Taraba, 5 in Kaduna, 5 in Gombe, Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Rivers, Bauch and the FCT recorded 3 new cases each.

2 new cases found in Osun, while AkwaIbom, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Kebbi states have one new case each.

The country’s total deaths from the virus now stand at 40 while 239 patients have recovered and discharged.

Kogi, Nasarawa, Yobe and Cross River are the only four states yet to record any case of Coronavirus in the country.

Sultan of Sokoto Urges Muslims to Pray for Nigeria, Against COVID-19 As Ramadan Commences

Muslims in the country have joined their counterparts in the world to commence the month-long Ramadan fast.

This followed Thursdays announcement by Sultan of Sokoto MUHAMMADU SA’AD ABUBAKAR on the sighting of the new moon.

The Sultan said reports from the National Moon sighting committee indicated that the moon has been sighted in several places.

He urged Muslim Ummahs across the country to pray fervently for the leadership of the nation, that they may be given the wisdom to pilot the affairs of the country appropriately.

The Sultan asked that the Ummahs pray against the COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging the world while also urging them to obey all the rules regarding the COVID-19 including social distancing.

He asked all Muslims to live in peace with all persons and abide by the teachings of Islam through the period of Ramadan and beyond.

ECOWAS Appoints Buhari As Champion Coordinator of Covid-19 For Africa Sub-Region

President BUHARI called on fellow ECOWAS leaders to look beyond the challenges posed by the COVID -19 pandemic and tap into various opportunities that it presents.

The President made this call during an extraordinary summit held by ECOWAS leaders via a video conference.

According to him, in every challenging situation such as the current one, there are also opportunities, and leaders should find such opportunities and take advantage of them.

During the teleconference, ECOWAS leaders appointed President BUHARI as the Champion to co-ordinate the COVID-19 response in the region.
