Nigerian Ports Authority Set To End Lockdown In Apapa

The Lagos State government and the leadership of the Nigerian Port Authority say they are prepared for the trial phase of the much talked about electronic Call-Up System which is intended to ease traffic gridlock around Apapa ports.

Governor BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU made this known when he received the NPA Managing Director, HADIZA BALA USMAN at the State House, Alausa.

BALA USMAN said the visit to the State House was to brief the governor on the status of the electronic call-up platform which would take effect from Saturday, February 27.

In his response, Governor SANWOOLU commended the NPA for their dedication towards ending the Apapa gridlock and expressed optimism on the transparency and full implementation of the electronic call-up system.

Super Falcons Claim Silverware In Turkey

The women’s national team, the Super Falcons were victorious at the Festival Women’s Cup 2021 Antalya, an invitational tournament in Turkey.

The Falcons recorded 1-0 wins against beat Uzbekistan and CSKA Moscow at the four-team tournament, before demolishing Equatorial Guinea 9-0 on Tuesday.

Head coach Randy Waldrum has been lauded for his team’s performance at the competition.

Former Falcons and Rivers Angels star Nwadike commended Waldrum and his women for a job well done.

“This is a very good one for the team and the coach too; they won the tournament in style. It shows signs of great things to come, with Waldrum’s technical ability. The coach has brought a cohesive football philosophy to the team,”.

Super Falcons midfielder Halima Ayinde has welcomed the decision of the team’s new coach, Randy Waldrum, to expand the player pool to let in younger players into the team While assuring Nigerian fans to expect greater things from the squad this year.

10 Killed, 47 Injured In Explosions In Parts Of Maiduguri

At least ten persons have been killed and 47 persons are said to have sustained injuries from the heavy explosions which engulfed some parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Hospital officials where the affected persons were rushed to, confirmed the figures to Governor BABAGANA ZULUM who visited to assess the situation.

Residents of the area were thrown into panic mode at about 7:00 pm yesterday when multiple sources reported gunshots and explosions near the Gomari area of the state.

 Sources said explosions were also heard in Mairi area, a student’s village near the University of Maiduguri.

 But the military immediately deployed gun trucks to the area as earlier reports indicated that worshippers in a mosque on the street called “LayinBori” may have been killed.

 Sources said, armed insurgents were behind the attack attempting to infiltrate the city, as troops engaged them.

 Maiduguri has long witnessed any Boko Haram invasion, even as the Chief of Army Staff, Major General IBRAHIM ATTAHIRU last Sunday gave 48 hours ultimatum to troops to recapture Marte Local Government Area which is currently under the control of Boko Haram.

Nigeria Records 12 Deaths, 571 New Covid-19 Cases

Nigeria has recorded 12 new deaths and 571 new confirmed cases of coronavirus.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 153,187 out of which 129,943 cases have been treated and discharged.

The death toll from the deadly coronavirus also increased to 1,874 in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
