Chimamanda Adichie Loses Mum

The award winning writer lost her father a few months back.

She died on Monday, March 1 2021 in Awka, Anambra State. 

Mrs. Grace Ifeoma Adichie (nee Odigwe), Chimamanda's mother was aged, 78.

A family spokesperson said that it was very sudden and the family is devastated.

Mrs. Adichie is survived by six children: Ijeoma, Uchenna, Chuks, Okechukwu, Chimamanda and Kenechukwu as well as nine grandchildren, in-laws and many relatives.

The family announced that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Fire Guts Army Headquarters

Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima said in a statement that an electrical fault sparked a minor fire incident at the army headquarters earlier today.

He also stated: "The incident which happened at about 10.15am was as a result of minor electrical fault in one of the offices.

“The Army Headquarters complex is currently undergoing some renovation involving electrical rework.

“The Nigerian Army Fire Service Department has since put out the fire. No casualty was recorded during the incident and normalcy has since returned to the complex”.

Ghana, Ivory Coast Administers World’s First Free Covax Covid-19 Jabs

African countries are starting mass Covid19 inoculation drives using vaccines supplied through a scheme set up to share doses fairly with poorer nations.

 Ivory Coast is one of the first to benefit from the UN-backed Covax distribution initiative.

 Ghana is also launching its vaccination drive this week.

Ghana's President NANA AKUFO-ADDO yesterday became the first to receive a coronavirus vaccine through the scheme.

 Mr AKUFO-ADDO urged people to get inoculated and not to believe conspiracy theories casting doubt on the programme, which will see some 600,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine rolled out nationwide today.
