Human Rights Lawyers Says The Appointments Of The New Service Chiefs Requires The Approval Of The National Assembly

Reactions have been trailing the appointment of the new Service Chiefs by the President as human rights lawyers said their appointments requires approval of the National Assembly.

One of the lawyers, Mr. FEMI FALANA said the four service chiefs appointed by the President were not yet substantive heads of the Armed Forces until the National Assembly approves their appointment.

In a statement, FALANA however said that the service chiefs could continue to operate in acting capacities until approval is given by the National Assembly.

Another senior lawyer, TAYO OYETIBO, noted that without the approval of the National Assembly, the service chiefs had not been appointed in law.

But the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President, FEMI ADESINA, has said the appointment of the service chiefs is the prerogative of the President and not subjected to the dictate of federal character.
