NCDC Announces 490 New Cases Of Covid-19

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has announced 490 new cases of coronavirus in 15 states and the FCT.

In a tweet last night, the NCDC also annnounced additional 31 deaths linked to the virus.

The new figures put total infections in the country at 17,148.

Although 5,623 persons have been successfully treated and discharged.

In the latest cases, Lagos recorded 142 while the Federal Capital Territory had new 60.

Other states with new cases include Bayelsa (54), Rivers (39), Delta (37), Oyo (30), Kaduna (26), Imo (23), Enugu (19), Gombe (11), Ondo (10), Bauchi (8), Ogun (7), Borno (6), and Benue (1).

It is emerging that Monday night’s meeting between the new Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole and the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, did not help Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State reverse his disqualification from the party’s governorship primary.

Gambari had met with them at State House, Abuja, to discuss the controversy and uproar that greeted Governor Obaseki’s disqualification by the screening panel, the appeal panel and the NWC.

Oshiomhole, who briefed State House Correspondents after the meeting, said the decision to disqualify the governor, who is seeking reelection, is irrevocable.

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has the described the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Nigeria governors’ forum as nothing but a toothless dog that can only bark but cannot bite.

 

The governor berated the APC governors for remaining silent and doing nothing while injustice was meted out to one of their own and governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki who was disqualified from contesting the party’s primary slated for June 22.

 

The Rivers state governor says Governor Godwin Obaseki’s disqualification from contesting the September 19 governorship election was made possible by the culture of impunity that has engulfed the APC and will therefore not opposed to Obaseki joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

NCDC Confirms 573 New COVID-19 Cases, Nigeria’s Toll Now 16,658

A total of 573 new cases of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Nigeria, bringing the total number to 16, 658.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, 216 of the cases were recorded in Lagos State, 103 in Rivers State, 68 in Oyo State, 40 in Edo State, 21 in Kano State, 20 in Gombe State, 17 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 13 in Delta State, and 12 in Plateau and Bauchi states respectively.

Ten cases were recorded in Niger State, nine in Kebbi, eight each in Ogun and Ondo states, seven in Abia State, five in Nasarawa State, and one in Borno, Kwara, Benue and Anambra states respectively.
