Carabao Cup Final Pushed Back To April

The 2020/2021 Carabao Cup final has been pushed back from February to April in the hope that more supporters will be able to attend Wembley on the new date.

The match had initially been scheduled for February 28 but is now set to be played on April 25, with kick off at 4pm.

In confirming the decision, the EFL said: "It is the objective of the League to stage the final with as many supporters in attendance as possible and the decision has therefore been taken to move the final from its original date of Sunday 28 February 2021 to later in the year.

"The number of fans permitted will be dependent on Government guidance in place at the time and it is hoped that moving the date to later in the year will give clubs and their fans the best opportunity to attend in person."

The decision follows the introduction of new tier four coronavirus restrictions in large parts of south-eastern and eastern England at the weekend.

Admist #Covid-19 Large Crowds Floods Lagos Offices In A Bid To Obtain NIN

Large crowds gathered at the offices of the National Identity Management Commission in Lagos in a bid to register and obtain the National Identity Number.

The development comes just days after the Nigerian Communication Commission ordered telecommunications companies to within two weeks suspend phone subscribers who have no NIN.

Currently, only about 41.5 million Nigerians out of an estimated 198 million active phone subscribers have NIN.

Most of the people, who gathered at the NIMC office in Alausa, were either not wearing face masks or not observing physical distancing, thereby flouting the protocol put in place by the government in a bid to tackle the spread of COVID-19 which has been on the increase in the last one week.

Lagos state Governor, BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU, who has also been infected with COVID-19 ordered the closure of places of worship, schools, clubs and other places which could attract large crowds.

Several Nigerians had expressed concern over the sudden directive of the Federal Government and had asked that the deadline given for the registration be extended but the government has remained adamant.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project had described the order as an abuse of human rights and threatened to sue the Federal Government within seven days if it is not rescinded.
