#Covid19: FG Threatens To Shut Malls And Markets

The FCT Administration has told shop owners to choose between complying with COVID-19 guidelines or having their business premises shut as part of measures to contain the pandemic.
Head, Media and Public Enlightenment of the FCT Ministerial Enforcement Task team on COVID-19 Regulations, Ikharo Attah issued the warning while monitoring the level of compliance in some shopping malls and business premises across the city.

He said the administration will “not hesitate to shut down shopping malls, Maitama farmers’ market and business premises in the city that fail to comply with the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.

“From what we observed, there is high compliance by costumers and visitors to these malls and business premises, sadly, same cannot be said of the workers and operators of shops and other businesses in the malls” He said.

Football Review 2020

Football was big in 2020 with a lot of major happenings in a turbulent season almost truncated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bayern Munich were the big winners in 2020 as they won the lot. Led by Polish maestro Robert Lewandowski, the Bavarians eased to the Bundesliga and DFB Polkal titles before capping off a magnificent season with the Champions League trophy.

Lewandowski’s nigh-unstoppable form saw him claim the coveted FIFA Best Player award after scoring over 50 goals in all competitions. The striker was widely considered the frontrunner for the Balon D'Or but the award was suspended this year due to the virus.

In England, Liverpool finally won a Premier League title after 30 years of waiting. They were the dominant force throughout the season, suffering just one defeat and ending their campaign with an 18 point lead over Manchester City in second place.

Leeds United secured a return to the Premier League, ending a 16 year sojourn in the lower rungs of English football. Mikel Arteta also led Arsenal to the FA Cup title, although that early good will seems to be eroding slowly given the Gunners recent struggles.

In Spain, Barcelona fired manager Ernesto Valverde while at the top of the standings and ultimately lost the title to bitter rivals Real Madrid. Ronald Koeman is the man in charge at the Nou Camp now, but Barcelona’s struggles appear to have no end in sight.

Juventus continued their dominance in Serie A, winning their ninth straight Scudetto. They have since let title winning manager Maurizio Sarri go, with former player Andrea Pirlo the new man at the helm.

Meanwhile Ligue 1 remained PSG's oyster as they once again claimed another dominant title win. The Parisiens also spread their wings in Europe this year, reaching the Champions League final where they lost to German champions Bayern Munich.
