Apc Chieftain Olusegun Osoba Says Bola Tinubu Has The Right To Contest For President In 2023

Former Lagos state governor, BOLA TINUBU, has the constitutional right to contest for president in 2023 according to a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, OLUSEGUN OSOBA.

He said TINUBU as an individual has the right to put himself forward, but insists that the party has not zeroed in on any individual.

OSOBA, who is also a former governor of Ogun State, on a televised programme today believes BOLA TINUBU has a right to pursue his own agenda.

He said the South-West must unite and put its home in order to achieve success in the next presidential election.

According to him, there is a gentleman's agreement in the APC that the South will produce Nigeria's president in 2023.

However, the man in the eyes of the storm, BOLA TINUBU is yet to officially declare his intention to run for the number seat come 2023.

SERAP Seeks Intervention Of UN Over The Detention Of The Sowore And Four Others

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) is seeking the intervention of the United Nations over the detention of the convener of #RevolutionNow movement, OMOYELE SOWORE, and four others.

In a statement issued by its deputy director, KOLAWOLE OLUWADARE, the group said it has sent an urgent complaint to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention over what it called "arbitrary detention and other ill-treatment" SOWORE and the other whom it said were activists for peacefully exercising their human rights.

This comes a day after a Magistrate Court in Abuja ordered their remands at the Kuje Correctional Centre in the nation's capital pending when their formal bail application would be heard today.

They were arraigned by the Federal Government on three charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and an attempt to incite others.

Uruguay Players Want Cavani Ban Overturned

Uruguay's players' union has called on the Football Association to overturn Edinson Cavani's three-match ban.

The Manchester United striker was fined $100,000 and banned for an Instagram post containing a Spanish word that is offensive in some contexts.

Luis Suarez and Diego Godin have both shared a statement by their national players' union that calls the punishment a "discriminatory" act.

Uruguay's Football Association (AUF) also wants the ban reviewed.

Godin, Uruguay's captain, and striker Suarez shared on Twitter a letter of support for their international team-mate Cavani, written by the Uruguayan Football Players' Association (AFU).

The letter, signed by professional and amateur players from the South American country, described the FA's sanctioning of Cavani as an act "against the culture and way of life of the Uruguayan people".

The Football Association said it charged Cavani - and subsequently punished him - following a "full and thorough" investigation, which also "involved a language expert witness".

The FA said the post was alleged to be "insulting and/or abusive and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute".

It was also alleged "that the comment constitutes an aggravated breach" which "included reference, whether express or implied, to colour and/or race and/or ethnic origin".

Cavani accepted the FA's charge, with United saying the Uruguayan chose not to contest it "out of respect for, and solidarity with" the governing body and football's fight against racism.

Cavani sent the message after scoring a winner at southampton on 29 November. He subsequently deleted the post and apologised when the meaning that could be attached was pointed out

Champions Liverpool Stumble At Southampton

Liverpool's Premier League title defence suffered a setback as they fell to defeat at Southampton on Monday.

Danny Ings' superb second-minute lob over Reds goalkeeper Alisson, from a James Ward-Prowse free-kick, settled the contest against his former club.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side, for whom this was a second league loss of the season, remain top of the table on goal difference but have taken only two points from the past nine available.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City will leapfrog the reigning champions if they win their games in hand.

Southampton's first win in five Premier League games sees them climb to sixth and brought an emotional response from manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, who sank to his knees to celebrate taking points against a side led by Klopp for the first time.
