Former Senator Melaye Emerges Victorious in Six-Year Legal Battle Against Federal Government

Former Senator Dino Melaye, who represented Kogi West Senatorial District, has been cleared in a long-standing legal case against the Federal Government.

The case, which began in February 2018, involved accusations that Melaye falsely implicated Edward Onoja, the then Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, in an assassination plot. After years of legal proceedings and delays, including the passing of Justice Aromeh Benson Akogu, the presiding judge, in December 2017, the case has finally come to an end.

Police Remain Silent as Thugs Attack Rivers LG Secretariats

The Rivers State Police Command has remained notably silent in the face of violent unrest that erupted at several local government council secretariats on Monday morning. Reports indicate that suspected "political thugs," allegedly supporters of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, attacked the Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Eleme, and Emohua local government secretariats. This occurred less than 24 hours after Governor Sim Fubara swore in newly elected local government chairmen.

The attackers reportedly barricaded the entrances to the councils and fired shots indiscriminately, seemingly aiming to prevent the newly elected officials from assuming their duties. On the same day, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun ordered the immediate withdrawal of police personnel from the 23 local government secretariats in Rivers State after more than three months of deployment.

In Bori, Khana Local Government Area, a gunfight ensued as armed men opened fire on members of a political party, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the assailants and police. Reports indicate that the Bori Police Division recovered the body of a civilian who was killed during the confrontation.

In Eleme, arsonists set fire to the local council in a bid to block the new chairman from taking office. Heavy gunfire was also reported in Obio/Akpor, where attackers sought to disrupt the inauguration of councilors by the local government chairman. A viral video showed the Ikwerre LG secretariat engulfed in flames, while in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, plastic chairs were scattered at the entrance of the secretariat due to the unrest.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that at least three people have died amid the chaos across Obio/Akpor, Khana, and Ahoada East LGAs. Despite numerous calls for intervention, the state police command has yet to address the situation or take decisive measures to restore order and security at the affected secretariats.

October 7, 2024 Bobrisky Claims He Paid N5 Million Upfront to SAN for Pardon

Bobrisky Claims He Paid N5 Million Upfront to SAN for Pardon

In a recently released voice note, controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, revealed that he paid N5 million upfront to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to secure a Federal Government pardon for money laundering charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Bobrisky mentioned that the SAN initially requested N10 million, but he couldn't raise the full amount due to his account being frozen by the EFCC.

This information was shared in a video posted by social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, on October 7, 2024. The call recording reportedly dates back to May 16, 2024.

According to Bobrisky, his godfather helped him by providing the initial N5 million. However, he refrained from seeking additional funds since his godfather had already arranged for him to stay in a well-furnished apartment near the prison. He clarified that he is not currently in prison, despite public perception, stating, “Let the world think that, but you will never.” He added that his godfather had negotiated with the Deputy Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service to allow him to remain close to the facility so he could receive visitors and welcome family members without drawing attention.

Bobrisky elaborated that they were working on securing a pardon to expedite his release, explaining, “I’m supposed to finish my sentence by July, but if we get the amnesty, I could leave by the first week of next month.” He noted that the SAN had received the N5 million, which was sent two weeks prior, and the pardon request had already been submitted.

Additionally, Bobrisky mentioned that his godfather coordinated his living arrangements with the Deputy Controller, as there were concerns about potential harassment if he were placed in a male facility. “They were worried about putting me in a male facility due to the risk of harassment, so they arranged for me to stay nearby, as long as I don’t post or say anything,” he explained.

This latest revelation comes on the heels of Bobrisky's previous claim that EFCC operatives demanded and accepted N15 million to drop the money laundering charges against him. He alleged that his godfather, along with the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, facilitated arrangements for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment rather than in prison.
