15 Rescued, Five Missing After Boat Collision in Lagos – LASWA

Fifteen individuals have been rescued, while five others are still missing after two boats collided in Lagos State. The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) reported no casualties so far, despite conflicting accounts regarding the total number of people involved.

In a statement released on Tuesday, LASWA detailed the incident: “A boat collision occurred yesterday evening at Imore on the Lagos waterways, involving two vessels: ‘Only God 13’ and a wooden boat. At approximately 7:00 PM, ‘Only God 13,’ which was traveling from Ebutte Ero to Badagry with 15 passengers, collided with a wooden boat carrying 10 passengers from Alakija to Imore.”

Fortunately, all 15 passengers aboard ‘Only God 13’ were rescued and are currently waiting at the jetty to retrieve their belongings. However, five passengers from the wooden boat suffered injuries and are receiving medical treatment. Sadly, five individuals remain unaccounted for, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.

LASWA noted, “LASWA, LASEMA, NIWA, Marine Police, and local operators are working tirelessly to locate the missing individuals and provide assistance to those affected.”

This incident follows closely on the heels of a separate boat capsizing in Niger State, which resulted in fatalities.

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has been appointed as the head of football operations at Red Bull, which owns clubs in Leipzig, Salzburg, and New York, the company announced on Wednesday.

“After nearly 25 years on the sidelines, I couldn’t be more excited to be involved in a project like this,” said Klopp, who concluded his nine-year tenure at Liverpool at the end of last season. The 57-year-old will officially begin his new role on January 1, 2025.

According to a statement from the Austrian energy drinks company, Klopp will focus on high-level strategic initiatives and will not be involved in the day-to-day operations of the clubs. “I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs,” Klopp remarked.

Additionally, Sky Germany reports that Klopp’s contract includes an exit clause, allowing him to assume the role of manager for the German national team should he be approached.

During his time at Liverpool, Klopp revitalized the team, leading them to victories in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

NNPCL Announces Another Fuel Pump Price Increase

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has once again increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to ₦1,030 per litre. This change was observed at NNPCL outlets in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to reports from Premium Times, the price hike follows NNPCL’s decision to end its exclusive purchase agreement with Dangote Refinery. With this move, the NNPC will no longer serve as the sole off-taker of petroleum products from the refinery, allowing marketers to negotiate prices directly with Dangote Refinery.

This development signals a shift in the dynamics of fuel pricing in Nigeria, potentially leading to further market-driven price adjustments.
