Transfer: Cyriel Dessers Set to Leave Rangers in January

Cyriel Dessers is reportedly set to leave Rangers when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Nigerian forward has struggled to win the support of many Rangers fans since his move from Italian club Cremonese last summer. Dessers recently lost his starting spot to Brazilian forward Danilo and Moroccan Hamza Igamane.

According to Ibrox Noise, Dessers is already contemplating his future at the Scottish club. Rangers turned down an offer from Major League Soccer (MLS) side Atlanta United for the former Feyenoord player during the summer transfer window.

Rangers are reportedly only willing to entertain offers around the £6m they paid for Dessers.

Judge Shot Dead In Mexico

A judge was fatally shot on Wednesday in Acapulco, a city in Mexico once known for its thriving tourism but now plagued by violence. Local reports and the Guerrero state prosecutor’s office confirmed the incident.

The victim, identified in the media as Edmundo Roman Pinzon, president of the Guerrero Superior Court of Justice, was shot at least four times while in his car outside an Acapulco courthouse.

This tragedy follows a series of violent incidents in Guerrero State. In October, the mayor of Chilpancingo was murdered and decapitated shortly after taking office. Later that month, armed clashes between suspected gang members and security forces resulted in 19 deaths. In November, authorities discovered a dozen dismembered bodies in vehicles in Chilpancingo.

Acapulco, once a glamorous destination for wealthy tourists, has become one of the world’s most violent cities due to escalating bloodshed linked to organized crime. The Guerrero prosecutor’s office issued a statement confirming it is investigating the "aggravated homicide" of Edmundo N, following the standard practice of withholding full names.

The killing occurred shortly after President Claudia Sheinbaum held a National Public Security Council meeting in Acapulco, attended by state governors. Since 2006, over 450,000 people have been murdered in Mexico amid spiraling violence largely tied to drug trafficking.

Sheinbaum, who became Mexico's first female president in October, ruled out reinstating the controversial “war on drugs” policy. Instead, she has vowed to continue former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s "hugs, not bullets” strategy, which focuses on addressing the social causes of crime. Guerrero recorded 1,890 murders last year alone.

Adelabu: 150MW to Be Added to National Grid by Year-End

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced that Nigeria is on course to add 150 MW to the national grid by the end of 2024. He disclosed this on Thursday while addressing State House correspondents after a meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Adelabu attributed this planned upgrade to the successful implementation of the pilot phase of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). He explained that the project is 80% complete, involving the importation, installation, and commissioning of 10 power transformers and 10 mobile substations. Most of these have been installed and commissioned, with only two remaining, which are expected to be operational by year-end.

The minister highlighted that the pilot phase has already added 750 MW to the transmission grid capacity, resulting in the relative grid stability currently being observed. He expressed confidence that the full completion of the pilot phase would contribute an additional 150 MW to the grid.

This statement comes amid persistent challenges with the national grid, which has collapsed 12 times this year, leaving millions of households in darkness. Experts have pointed to outdated infrastructure as a significant cause of the frequent grid failures.

However, Adelabu assured Nigerians that ongoing improvements would lead to better performance. He emphasized the need to overhaul the grid, describing it as old, fragile, and deteriorating, and stated that the completion of the Phase One transmission project would significantly enhance grid stability in the future.
