LaLiga: Barcelona Takes Legal Action Over Player Registration Issues

Barcelona is set to take their case to the National Sports Council (CSD) of the Spanish Administrative Court regarding the registration issues of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. The club hopes the court will overturn the decision by La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which rejected the registration of the two players.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared the update on Saturday via his X account, confirming Barcelona’s plans to pursue legal action.

Barcelona confirms they will go to CSD court for Dani Olmo and Pau Victor registration cases. More to follow next week,” Romano tweeted.
He added, “OFFICIAL: La Liga and Spanish Federation RFEF have jointly decided to REJECT Dani Olmo and Pau Victor’s registrations for Barcelona. Barcelona will go to court.”

La Liga has already removed Olmo and Victor from their list of registered players for Barcelona on its official website. Under current regulations, players cannot be registered twice for the same club in a single season.

Unless the court rules in Barcelona's favor, Olmo and Victor will be ineligible to play for the Catalan giants for the remainder of the season.

Speed Darlington’s Lawyer Dares Burna Boy: Arrest Chief Priest to Prove Your Bravery

Stan Alieke, lawyer to embattled singer Speed Darlington, has issued a challenge to Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, urging him to take legal action against socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, for alleged defamation. This follows Burna Boy’s previous decision to have Speed Darlington arrested for similar accusations.

Cubana Chief Priest has recently engaged in social media trolling directed at Burna Boy after the singer appeared to take a jab at him. In one of his posts, Chief Priest alleged that Burna Boy had an inappropriate relationship with American music executive Diddy as part of an effort to secure a Grammy. Speed Darlington was arrested for making a comparable claim.

Reacting to the situation, Stan Alieke called on Burna Boy to demonstrate consistency by pursuing legal action against Chief Priest. Writing on his Instagram story, Alieke said:

“Your petition claims that the Diddy and baby oil banter has caused ‘irreparable damage to your international reputation and has made you lose a lot of gigs.’

"Now, another person with more reach and influence has referenced the same Diddy and baby oil banter. The world expects you to engage the police and arrest him since that’s your usual approach. Otherwise, the streets may interpret it as cowardice.

“Well, I’m just a lawyer seeking justice for all.”

The lawyer’s remarks have sparked debate online, with many questioning whether Burna Boy will respond similarly to the allegations from Cubana Chief Priest.

Watford Propose Short-Term Deal for Iheanacho

Sky Bet Championship side Watford have reportedly made a short-term loan offer for Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho. The Hornets are keen to bring in the forward for the remainder of the season as they bolster their squad for the campaign ahead.

Iheanacho joined Sevilla last summer but has struggled to make an impact at the Spanish club. The 28-year-old has yet to score in nine league appearances for the Rojiblancos, raising questions about his form and fitness. Reports suggest Sevilla is open to letting him leave this month.

During his time at Leicester City, Iheanacho was a consistent performer, scoring 61 goals and providing 34 assists in 232 appearances. Watford will hope he can rediscover that form if the deal goes through, potentially boosting their push for success in the Championship.

Judge to Sentence Trump in Hush Money Case Before Inauguration

The New York judge overseeing President-elect Donald Trump’s hush money case has scheduled sentencing for January 10, just 10 days before his inauguration. Judge Juan Merchan indicated he is unlikely to impose jail time. Trump, who became the first former U.S. president convicted of a crime, can choose to appear in person or virtually for the sentencing.

In an 18-page ruling, Merchan upheld Trump’s conviction by a New York jury, dismissing various motions from Trump’s legal team to overturn the verdict. Instead of incarceration, the judge is leaning toward an unconditional discharge, meaning Trump would face no conditions following the sentencing. However, the decision would see him entering the White House as a convicted felon.

Although Trump faced a potential four-year prison term, legal experts had long doubted that the judge would impose jail time. Merchan emphasized that incarceration was not a likely outcome, a view also shared by prosecutors, who deemed a jail sentence impractical.

Following the decision, Trump criticized the ruling on his platform, Truth Social, calling it a “Rigged Charade” and labeling Merchan a “radical partisan.” He claimed the decision was unconstitutional and threatened the presidency’s future.

Trump’s conviction in May involved 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. The payment was allegedly intended to silence claims of a 2006 sexual encounter.

Trump’s attorneys had sought dismissal of the case on various grounds, including an argument that former presidents are immune from prosecution for acts committed while in office. Merchan rejected this claim but acknowledged that Trump would regain immunity once sworn in as president. As a result, the judge deemed it necessary to impose sentencing before Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025.
