Woman Arrested for Brutally Assaulting 15-Year-Old Boy in Edo

The arrest of a woman for causing harm to a teenager who was working in her home has been verified by the Edo State Police command.
Moses Yamu, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, stated in a statement that the woman had injured the youngster physically by using metal objects in the fire.
At around 1945 hours on November 1, 2025, the Command was notified that 31-year-old Abigail Oluwarotimi “f” had burned a metal object and used it to burn her 15-year-old housekeeper Jude Joseph “m.” Consequently, the victim’s genitalia and lap were injured.

According to the command, the suspect confessed to the crime and was taken into custody right away.
She attributed her behavior to the boy’s alleged abuse of her kids. The victim is being treated at the moment.
According to the statement, CP Umoru Ozigi, the Commissioner of Police for Edo State Command, expressed worry over the development and directed that the case be transferred right away to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive and private investigation.
The command urged the public against taking laws into their hands while underscoring the need to allow the law to take its course.

January 13, 2025 Police Uncover ‘Constructive Kidnapping’ Trend, Rescue 16 Women in Lagos

Police Uncover ‘Constructive Kidnapping’ Trend, Rescue 16 Women in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has exposed a disturbing new trend of abduction, labeled "Constructive Kidnapping," where unsuspecting women are tricked by individuals posing as online friends or romantic interests. This elaborate scam has already ensnared 16 women across the state, all of whom were rescued by the police.

In another shocking twist, a 15-year-old girl was found after allegedly colluding with her boyfriend to stage a fake kidnapping and demand ransom from her parents.

According to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Ishola, who briefed journalists over the weekend on the command’s achievements between September 2024 and January 2025, the “Constructive Kidnapping” scheme is as deceptive as it is calculated.

The perpetrators initiate contact with their victims on social media, posing as friends or potential romantic partners. After gaining their trust, the criminals lure the victims to Lagos, promising luxury and love. To make their bait more convincing, the kidnappers send significant sums of money—sometimes up to ₦500,000—and pay for the victim’s business-class flight and accommodations at five-star hotels.

However, upon arrival, the victims are trapped. Their phones are confiscated, and their money is transferred out. The kidnappers then contact the victims' families, demanding ransom and issuing threats of harm if their demands are not met.

Describing the scheme, CP Ishola explained, “This is termed ‘Constructive Kidnapping’ because the victims unknowingly walk into a trap. They are lured from their safe spaces to Lagos with offers of money, luxury, and false affection. Upon arrival, they are deceived, robbed, and used to extort their families. So far, we have rescued 16 ladies from this scam, and we remain vigilant to stay ahead of these criminals.”

He urged the public, especially young women, to be cautious when engaging with strangers online. “Always report suspicious activity,” he advised. “If you see something, say something.”

In a related case, CP Ishola revealed details about a 15-year-old girl who allegedly staged her own kidnapping. The girl, identified as Anuoluwapo Victoria, left home on January 8, 2025, and was later reported missing by her mother. The next day, the family received a ransom demand along with a bank account to transfer funds for her release.

The police traced Anuoluwapo to her boyfriend’s residence, where she was found with a baby. CP Ishola noted, “Her parents had already sent money to the provided account multiple times before we apprehended her and her boyfriend.”

The Lagos Police Command continues to warn citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent falling victim to such schemes.

Stampede Tragedy: Oyo Files Murder Charges Against Ooni’s Former Queen and Others

The Oyo State Government has filed eight counts of murder and manslaughter against Naomi Silekunola, the ex-queen of the Ooni of Ife; Oriyomi Hamzat, the proprietor of an Ibadan-based radio station; and Abdulahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan. The charges stem from a stampede at a children’s funfair on December 18, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of 35 children.

The charge sheet, marked I/05C/2025 and filed on January 10, 2025, at the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, lists the state government as the complainant, with Silekunola, Hamzat, and Fasasi as defendants. The government alleges conspiracy to commit murder and manslaughter, criminal negligence, and other offenses under the Criminal Code, CAP 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The charge sheet identifies 14 out of the 35 deceased children, including Musiliu Sofiat, aged 8, Lekan Salami, aged 7, Feyikemi Salam, aged 1.5, and others ranging from 1.5 to 18 years old. The state accuses the defendants of failing to provide adequate security, crowd control measures, and medical facilities at the funfair, alleging that this negligence directly caused the fatalities.

Fasasi faces additional charges, including conspiracy, acceleration of death, and negligent acts causing harm. Governor Seyi Makinde previously pledged that the state would ensure accountability for the tragic incident.

The defendants, arrested on December 24, 2024, remain in custody as they await trial.
