Hoeness: Bayern Munich expect to name new head coach within three weeks

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness says the German giants will take their time to find Niko Kovac’s successor, but expects them to be able to name a new head coach within three weeks.

Kovac was sacked on Sunday after 16 months in charge in the wake of Bayern’s 5-1 drubbing at Eintracht Frankfurt, which left the defending giants fourth in the Bundesliga table.

Kovac’s assistant coach Hansi Flick has been named interim boss.

Hoeness says Bayern’s senior figures will “think calmly about how to handle” finding a new head coach with a decision expected to be made during the forthcoming international break.

The German media has already speculated who Kovac’s permanent replacement will be, but Dutchman Erik ten Hag, one of the early favourites, has already announced he will not leave Ajax before the end of the season.

Massimiliano Allegri, Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger, who are all currently without a club, have been mentioned as possible candidates.

October 29, 2019 Revealed: Arsenal interviewed eight candidates before appointing Emery

Revealed: Arsenal interviewed eight candidates before appointing Emery

Arsenal reportedly interviewed eight candidates for the monumental task to replace Arsene Wenger as manage, including a couple of club legends.

Wenger stepped down as Arsenal boss at the end of the 2017-18 campaign after 22 years in charge – with the team losing further ground on their Premier League rivals and missing out on Champions League football for the second season running.

Unai Emery was eventually the man chosen for the Emirates job after it had initially appeared that former Arsenal player Mikel Arteta would take over.

The names, in alphabetical order, included, Massimiliano Allegri, Arteta, Thierry Henry, Julen Lopetegui, Ralf Rangnick, Jorge Sampaoli and Patrick Vieira.

It has also been reported by The Athletic that Arsenal additionally discussed Antonio Conte, Eddie Howe, Maurizio Sarri and Brendan Rodgers – but for various reasons, they were not pursued.

Ultimately, it was Arteta’s lack of managerial experience and a readily available backroom team that proved to work against him.

The pressure has intensified on Emery after Arsenal let a two-goal lead slip at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon against Crystal Palace.
