Anthony Joshua to defend titles in 2020

Anthony Joshua could be forced to vacate either his WBO or IBF world heavyweight belts after both organisations named mandatory challengers.

Former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is the WBO’s mandatory, while the IBF named Kubrat Pulev as theirs.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn wants his fighter to defend both belts, with a view to securing a unification bout with either Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury but the Matchroom chief has revealed that one of the titles may need to be vacated.

Daniel Tells Wilder, Joshua: I’m Coming For You

Daniel Dubois sent one final terrifying message to 2020’s heavyweight world champions,Deintay Wilder and Anthony Joshua: ‘I am coming for you’.

The 22-year-old Greenwich starlet destroyed Japanese hardman Kyotaro Fujimoto in round two of their Copper Box clash, with one of the most devastating single punches of the year.

That means the Peacock Gym prodigy ends 2019 well up the rankings of the WBA, WBO and WBC and close to world title shot.

Once Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder settle their differences with two more fights to complete their trilogy in February and the summer – and Anthony Joshua handles his two mandatories – Dynamite Dubois will be blowing down their door.

Dubois said: “After the first couple of shots, I thought I would pace myself.

“I knew I had the power, I was confident about what I was going to do.

“I landed a sweet shot, and that was goodnight.

“If I keep collecting these nice belts, I won’t be too far from a world title shot, I just have to walk the path.

A vicious lead left-hook was Joe Frazieresque and an assault to the body would have folded a weaker man.

Fujimoto stood tall and left himself open to a sickening right hand that collapsed him entirely.

The medics dived into the ring before the referee even officially called off the fight and Dubois’ worried trainer Martin Bowers pushed his star pupil back into the corner to calm the celebrations, as their latest victim lay stricken and needing oxygen.

Thankfully the dazed and confused fighter rose to his feet and left of his own accord, unlikely to fancy returning in a hurry.

Saka undecided over international future

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who is eligible to play for both Nigeria and England, says he is weighing up his international options but will not rush his decision.

The Arsenal youth academy graduate said neither England nor Nigeria had so far approached him about his senior international future.

“No-one has been in touch but when I make a decision, you will find out,” said Saka.

The talented winger is having a breakthrough season with Arsenal.

He made his Premier League debut at the age of 17 – making history in the process when he became the first footballer born in 2001 to play in the Premier League.

The young Arsenal star paid tribute to former Gunners coach Unai Emery for giving him his chance.

“I have a lot of thanks to give him because he gave me so much confidence, he gave me my debut and he kept pushing me. I am grateful to him always.

Now, Saka says he is focused on the future with Arsenal’s newly appointed manager, Mikel Arteta.
