Man City Legend Bell Dies At 74

Former Manchester City and England midfielder Colin Bell has died aged 74 following a short illness, the club announced on Tuesday.

Bell scored 152 goals in 492 appearances for City during a 13-year career with the club after joining from Bury.

Bell was a member of the City side that won the old First Division title in 1967/68 and the FA Cup in 1969.

He also helped City win two trophies in the 1969/70 season — the English League Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup.

In addition to his City honors, Bell won 48 England caps and was in the squad for the 1970 World Cup in Mexico during a career cut short by a knee injury.

City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak led the tributes, saying: “Colin Bell will always be remembered as one of Manchester City’s greatest players and the very sad news today of his passing will affect everybody connected to our club.

I am fortunate to be able to speak regularly to his former manager and teammates, and it’s clear to me that Colin was a player held in the highest regard by all those who had the privilege of playing alongside him or seeing him play.

"The passage of time does little to erase the memories of his genius. The fact that we have a stand at the Etihad Stadium named after Colin speaks volumes about the importance of his contribution to this club.

“Colin was incredibly humble and a modest and understated man with an obvious inner strength of character.

"He was clearly comfortable with who he was and what he had achieved in the game.

"For the rest of us, there is always the thought of what might have been if injury had not affected his career. Undoubtedly more trophies for City and far more than the 49 England caps to his name.

“Our Club has lost a true great. Everyone’s thoughts and best wishes are with Colin’s family.”

Tributes have flooded in from far and wide such that the enormity of which Bell was adored.

Tottenham Beat Brentford To Reach EFL Cup Final

Tottenham Hotspur has moved to within one game of a first trophy in 13 years after securing a semi-final win over Championship side, Brentford.

Spurs have not claimed silverware since they beat Chelsea in the 2008 League Cup final and they were made to work hard before seeing off the Championship promotion chasers in this one-leg semi-final at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mourinho has won the cup on four occasions and goals from Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min ensured he now has the chance to make that five, having become the third manager to reach the final with three different teams.

Brentford had beaten four Premier League sides in a run to their first major semi-final but they were behind after only 12 minutes when Sissoko headed Sergio Reguilon's cross beyond keeper David Raya.

Mourinho's side will now meet either Manchester United or Manchester City in the final at Wembley in April.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has cancelled today's Confederation Cup clash between Rivers United and South African side Bloemfontein Celtic.

The African football governing body announced the cancellation via their Twitter handle citing possible breaches of Covid-19 protocols.

The NFF said the request followed the refusal of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to step down on some of the COVID-19 protocols such as the quarantine period for the South African contingent.

The NFF had in a letter to CAF on Monday, asked that the game be postponed and possibly relocated to a neighbouring country, at a different date from the previously scheduled date
