Hamilton Signs New Mercedes Deal For 2021 Season

Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has signed a new one-year contract with Mercedes for the 2021 season.

The 36-year-old's previous deal lapsed in 2020 but he will now race for Mercedes for a ninth season.

Hamilton became the sport's most successful driver ever in 2020, breaking Michael Schumacher's all-time win record and drawing level with the German's seven titles.

"Our team has achieved incredible things together," said Hamilton.

"We look forward to building on our success even further, while continuously looking to improve, both on and off the track."

Part of the new deal involves a commitment from Mercedes to continue to work with Hamilton on seeking "greater diversity and inclusion in motorsport".

They will work on creating a new joint charitable foundation and Hamilton says the manufacturer has been "extremely supportive" on the issue.

Brady Wins Seventh Super Bowl As Buccaneers Beat Chiefs

Tom Brady steered the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a comfortable 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs to extend his record for Super Bowl wins to seven.

In his first season after a glittering 20-year spell with the New England Patriots, the evergreen quarterback helped Tampa Bay become the first team to play a Super Bowl in their own stadium.

And despite facing Kansas City and their dynamic young quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who came in as favorites, Brady threw three touchdown passes to prevent the Chiefs becoming the first back-to-back NFL champions since Brady and the Patriots in the 2004 season.

At 43 years and 188 days, Brady became the oldest player to play in the biggest game in US sport, extending his record for Super Bowl appearances to 10 and joining Peyton Manning as the only quarterbacks to win Super Bowls with two different teams.

Already widely considered the greatest NFL player of all time, Brady decided to leave New England in the off-season for a new challenge and was lured to Tampa Bay, whose only previous Super Bowl win came in the 2002 season.

Williams, Osaka Claim Australian Open First Round Wins

Serena Williams launched her latest bid for a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam with a 56-minute demolition of Laura Siegemund at the Australian Open.

The American, 39, said it was "vintage Serena" as she thrashed the German 6-1 6-1 in front of a small, unmasked crowd on Rod Laver Arena.

US Open champion Naomi Osaka also made a convincing start with a 6-1 6-2 win over Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

But former champion Angelique Kerber was the first seed to be knocked out.

The German 23rd seed, who was one of 72 players to spend 14 days in 'hard' quarantine before the tournament - confined to a hotel room and unable to train outside - was beaten 6-0 6-4 by American Bernarda Pera.

Both Williams and Osaka had withdrawn from warm-up events last week with shoulder issues but neither showed any sign of injury as they made swift progress to the second round, where they will also be joined by Williams' 40-year-old sister Venus, who beat Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens 7-5 6-2.

Osaka will play France's Caroline Garcia next, while the elder Williams sister faces veteran Sara Errani
