Billionaire Businessman Jimoh Ibrahim Regains Seized Assets From AMCON

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, set aside the interim order through which the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) seized property belonging to a businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim, for an alleged N69.4 billion debt.

Justice Okon Abang, in a ruling, also vacated all consequential orders earlier made by the court on Jan. 4 but differently constituted by Justice Rilwan Aikawa of a Federal High Court, Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a Federal High Court, Lagos, had on, Feb. 17, declined to vacate an interim order through which AMCON seized property belonging to Ibrahim.

Ibrahim, NICON Investment Ltd and Global Fleet Oil and Gas Ltd, had prayed the court to set aside the order for “non-disclosure and misrepresentation of material facts.”

They further prayed the court to order AMCON to pay N50 billion indemnity for alleged failure to conduct due diligence before obtaining the said order and for misrepresentation and concealment of fact.

But Aikawa, in a nearly two-hour ruling, upheld the argument of AMCON’s counsel, Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, which insisted that AMCON made “full and substantial disclosure of all material facts” at the time of obtaining the orders on Nov. 4, 2020.

Martinez’s Double Fires Inter To Victory Over AC Milan

Lautaro Martinez's two goals helped Inter Milan to an impressive derby win against AC Milan as they opened up a four-point gap at the top of Serie A.

The striker's early header laid the platform for a confident Inter display.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic twice went close to equalizing for Milan but the hosts were then caught out chasing the game.

A fine team move saw Martinez tap in his second then Romelu Lukaku finished another incisive counter attack with a low drive into the bottom corner.

While the normal raucous atmosphere that usually greets this fixture will have to wait until fans return to stadiums, supporters of both clubs lined the route to the ground, underlining the significance of the match.

This was the first time the sides had met while occupying the top two positions in Serie A since April 2011.

Man Utd Reclaim Second Place After Victory Over Newcastle

Marcus Rashford played a key role in a win over struggling Newcastle as Manchester United returned to second place in the Premier League.

The England striker helped the hosts overcome a stuttering start when he lashed in an 18th goal of the season by beating Karl Darlow at the near post after 30 minutes.

Allan Saint-Maximin then scored a deserved equaliser with his first goal since coming back from a two-month absence caused by coronavirus symptoms, slamming in after Harry Maguire failed to clear.

The Newcastle winger threatened again early in the second half, but the game turned after 57 minutes when Daniel James re-established the lead.

That led to the visitors' confidence draining away, with Rashford then earning a penalty as he drew a foul from Joe Willock before Bruno Fernandes knocked in his 22nd goal of the season.

Defeat for Steve Bruce's side was an eighth in 10 Premier League games, leaving them three points above the drop zone - and a relegation scrap with Fulham is now set to ensue.

For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, it was only a second win in six league matches, and a welcome victory after a draw at West Brom last weekend.

But they remain 10 points behind leaders Manchester City, who beat Arsenal earlier on Sunday.

Barcelona Frustrated By Lowly Cadiz

Lionel Messi scored on his club-record 506th La Liga appearance but Barcelona could only bounce back from their Champions League defeat by Paris St-Germain with a draw against Cadiz.

Messi's first-half penalty after Pedri was felled was cancelled out by Alex Fernandez's last-minute penalty.

Cadiz's equalizer, from their only shot on goal, ended Barca's seven-match-winning run in La Liga.

Barca can now be overtaken in third if Sevilla beat Osasuna on Monday.

Barcelona could have moved to within six points of leaders Atletico Madrid if they had overcome Cadiz, who brought their four-game losing run to an end with their late dramatics at the Nou Camp.

Apart from Ruben Sobrino bundling an awkward shot wide just minutes after Messi gave Barca the lead, Cadiz rarely threatened.

But the hosts were left frustrated as Messi's penalty - coolly taken after Pedri was sandwiched in a tackle between Salvi and Isaac Carcelen - was all they had to show despite controlling 81% possession and having 20 shots.
