AC Milan Beat Roma To Continue Pursuit Of Inter

AC Milan moved four points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan by beating Roma.

Franck Kessie put Milan ahead from the penalty spot after Roma's Federico Fazio fouled Davide Calabria.

But Roma's Jordan Veretout equalized with a fine finish from 18 yards out after five minutes of the second half.

However, after striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic went off to protect a groin injury, Milan scored the winner through Ante Rebic's shot on the turn following Alexis Saelemaekers' pass.

Ibrahimovic, 39, has scored 14 Serie A goals this season and had numerous chances to add to that total but had a strike tipped over, another effort cleared off the line, a goal disallowed, he backheeled a chance wide and also headed over.

Roma's ex-Manchester United and Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan had a goal disallowed and shot wide with only goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to beat before Veretout made it 1-1, but Milan regained the lead again eight minutes later.

Second-placed Milan had failed to win in their past four games in all competitions and are aiming for their first league title since 2010-11.

Late Aubameyang Header Helps Arsenal Advance

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a dramatic late winner to help Arsenal edge past Benfica into the last 16 of the Europa League.

In a 'home' leg played at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece, because of Covid-19 restrictions, Aubameyang opened the scoring to give the Gunners a 2-1 aggregate lead.

Diogo Goncalves levelled for Benfica just before the break with a superb free-kick after Dani Ceballos had needlessly fouled Julian Weigl.

The Spanish midfielder compounded that error after the interval with a poor defensive header that saw Rafa Silva race clear to put the visitors in front.

With Arsenal needing two goals to advance because of the away goals rule, Kieran Tierney's low drive set up a grandstand finish before Aubameyang rescued the tie.

Ex-Us Olympic Coach Found Dead After Sex Assault Charge

A former US Olympics gymnastics coach has killed himself hours after he was charged with sexual assault and human trafficking, officials say.

The office of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel confirmed the death of John Geddert on Thursday afternoon.

In the morning, Ms Nessel had outlined 24 felony charges facing Geddert.

Geddert was head of the women's gymnastics team in 2012 and worked closely with team doctor Larry Nassar who abused hundreds of athletes.

Nassar was sentenced to up to 300 years in jail in 2018 for abusing more than 250 girls.

Geddert, 63, had owned the training facility in Michigan where Nassar had served as the gym's doctor. A number of gymnasts accused him of abusive behavior when they testified during Nassar's trial.

He was expected to turn himself in on Thursday afternoon but did not appear, the attorney general's office said.

Man Utd Ease Into Europa League Round Of 16

Shola Shoretire became the youngest player to appear for Manchester United in a European game as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side eased into the last-16 of the Europa League with a goalless draw against Real Sociedad.

At 17 years and 23 days, Newcastle-born Shoretire beat the record of Norman Whiteside by 108 days on a night when January signing Amad Diallo also made his first appearance at Old Trafford.

They were notable milestones on an evening when Bruno Fernandes went closest for the hosts in the opening period as he smashed a lay-off from Fred onto the crossbar.

However, the best chance turned into a miserable failure for visitors' skipper Mikel Oyarzabal.

Presented with the opportunity to give his side an early lead from the penalty spot, Oyarzabal copied Fernandes' distinctive skip as he went to strike the ball and sent it so far wide it almost hit a photographer by the side of the goal.

Daniel James had a header saved by Alejandro Remiro before the break and Marcus Rashford, who took over the captain's armband when he replaced Fernandes at half-time, went close after it.

Axel Tuanzebe thought he had scored his first United goal when he powered in Alex Telles' corner, only for the intervention of the video assistant referee to halt Tuanzebe's celebrations.

Their victory means there will be four British sides in the Europa League last 16, with Tottenham, Arsenal and Rangers all advancing, although Leicester were eliminated by Slavia Prague.
