VP directs agencies to supply relief materials to flood victims

The Federal Government has promised to provide more relief materials to victims of flood disaster in Anambra and Delta states as rising water levels continue to wreak havoc there.

The Vice President, Professor YEMI SINBAJO disclosed this when he visited areas affected by flood in Anambra west local government area and other areas ravaged by flooding in Delta state.

In Anambra state, the Vice President was accompanied by Governor WILLIE OBIANO and Senator CHRIS NGIGE in a canoe, and promised to ensure quick supply of food and financial intervention to cushion the effects of the situation there.

While speaking in Delta state with Governor IFEANYI OKOWA, the Vice President explained that the Federal Government is working towards providing a lasting solution to the challenges of flood across the country.

The two Governors also spoke on the challenges posed by the flood to their states.

PDP Rejects INEC’s Declaration of Osun Guber Poll as Inconclusive

Peoples Democratic Party has rejected INEC’s declaration of the Osun state governorship election inconclusive.

INEC had declared the election inconclusive, saying the requirement for a winner to emerge on first ballot was not met.

Announcing the results, the returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. JOSEPH ADEOLA AFUWAPE said the candidate of the PDP, ADEMOLA ADELEKE, polled 254 , 698 votes while GBOYEGA OYETOLA of the APC polled 254 , 698 votes .

Quoting INEC’sStanding Rules ,AFUWAPE, said since the margin between the two leading candidates was lower than the registered cancelled votes , the election had to be declared inconclusive .

But, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, KOLA OLOGBONDIYAN described the declaration as a “sordid robbery of the franchise of the people of the state”, calling on INEC to immediately declare ADELEKE the winner.

INEC has fixed the rerun election in the state for September 27th.

The National Assembly has shifted its resumption from its annual recess from September 25 to October 9.

Clerk of the National Assembly, MOHAMMED OMOLORI announced this yesterday, attributing the shift to the ongoing primary elections being conducted by some political parties.

The National Assembly began its annual vacation on July 24.

Lagos state residents protest against the return of refuse trucks

In Lagos, residents of Old Ota Road, in the AgbadoOkeOdo Local Council Development Area of the State have embarked on a peaceful protest against the return of refuse trucks to the road.

The residents, including schoolchildren, displayed placards with different inscriptions to express anger over the pollution caused by the trucks owned by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority and operators of the Private Sector Participants (PSP).

The protesters said the trucks surfaced on the road about a month ago, adding that those who operated food business were shutting down operation because of the pollution caused by the trucks.

However, the General Manager of LAWMA, Mr. SEGUN ADENIJI, said government was taking measures to handle the environmental issues arising from the parking of truck in the area.
