Police In Lagos Arrest Over 200 In Raid Of Cubana Night Club

A mobile court sitting at the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit in Oshodi has convicted 172 persons arrested by the state police command for violating COVID-19 protocols.

The state Police Command shut down the popular Nightclub in Victoria Island where the violators were arrested.

With the aim of reducing losses, the government earlier permitted club houses with open bars and restaurants to resume such that there will be strict adherence to the covid19 protocols.

Rather than stick to the open bar arrangement where guests can be served drinks and grills while listening to music including live bands, police sources claimed Cubana opened its night club and allowed guests in, where they were allegedly caught dancing with no regards to the laid down social distancing policy.

“On Saturday, about 200 clubbers and fun seekers were arrested at Cubana Night Club, Lagos. They have immediately been handed over to the Lagos Police Command for investigation and possible prosecution.

Contacted, police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed that suspects were handed over to the command by the IGP Monitoring unit, adding that they would be paraded by the Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu.

He said Nigeria will receive 3.92 million doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines today.

The country is expecting a total of 16 million doses of the vaccine that will be delivered in batches over months.

According to BOSS MUSTAPHA, vaccines alone are not a complete solution to ending COVID-19.

Femi Falana Condemn Arrest Of Salisu Tanko-Yakassai

Human rights lawyer, FEMI FALANA, has condemned the arrest of SALISU TANKO-YAKASSAI, a former Special Adviser on Media to Kano State Governor, ABDULLAHI GANDUJE.

He was arrested by the Department of State Services shortly after criticizing the administration of President BUHARI on Twitter.

FALANA in a statement titled, ‘Asking Buhari to Resign is Not An Offence” described the arrest of YAKASSAI as discriminatory and illegal.

He noted that in the National Assembly, there had been calls by legislators for BUHARI’s resignation or impeachment on the grounds that criminal gangs have taken over the monopoly of violence in the country.

He recalled that the APC and its leaders including BUHARI and TINUBU repeatedly called for former President JONATHAN’s resignation between yet they were never subjected to any form of intimidation for exercising their freedom of expression at that time.

Elder statesman, TANKO YAKASAI, said that a lawyer and SALIHU’s brother visited Abuja and applied for permission at the DSS office to talk him, but they were denied access to him.
