North-East Governors’ Forum Says It Is Considering A Regional Security Outfit To Help In Tackling Security Challenges In The Region.

 The North-East Governors’ Forum says it is considering a regional security outfit to help in tackling the security challenges in the region.

It also said that the Federal Government is not showing commitment to ending the insurgency ravaging the region.

The Chairman of the forum and Governor of Borno State, BABAGANA ZULUM, disclosed this at the opening ceremony of the 4th North-East Governors’ Forum at the Government House, Bauchi.

He said the Federal Government should seek support from neighbouring countries, especially the Republic of Chad, Cameroon and Niger, with a view to providing joint action that will lead to the end of this crisis.

On his part, Bauchi State Governor, BALA MOHAMMED, said the deteriorating security situation in the country, particularly in the North-East, showed that the leaders had failed.

Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima said in a statement that an electrical fault sparked a minor fire incident at the army headquarters earlier today.

He also stated: "The incident which happened at about 10.15am was as a result of minor electrical fault in one of the offices.

“The Army Headquarters complex is currently undergoing some renovation involving electrical rework.

“The Nigerian Army Fire Service Department has since put out the fire. No casualty was recorded during the incident and normalcy has since returned to the complex”.

African countries are starting mass Covid19 inoculation drives using vaccines supplied through a scheme set up to share doses fairly with poorer nations.

 Ivory Coast is one of the first to benefit from the UN-backed Covax distribution initiative.

 Ghana is also launching its vaccination drive this week.

Ghana's President NANA AKUFO-ADDO yesterday became the first to receive a coronavirus vaccine through the scheme.

 Mr AKUFO-ADDO urged people to get inoculated and not to believe conspiracy theories casting doubt on the programme, which will see some 600,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine rolled out nationwide today.

Governor Akeredolu Suspends Transport Unions In Ondo State

Governor Akeredolu Orders Road Transport Employees To Vacate Motor Parks.

Ondo state government has suspended the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) with immediate effect.

The government has also directed taxi drivers to revert to the old rate of N50 per drop.

DOYIN ODEBOWALE, senior special assistant to the governor on special duties and strategy, who made the announcement in Akure attributed the suspension to the recent crisis within the unions over leadership tussles.

He directed the leadership of both NURTW and RTEAN to vacate motor parks across the 18 local government areas of the state and to stop collecting money from taxi drivers and other motorists.
