Bola Tinubu Says He Meant 50,000 And Not 50 Million Youths For Army Recruitment

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, BOLA TINUBU has said he made an error while calling for more youths to be drafted into the Nigerian Army in a bid to tackle insecurity in the country.

This was stated in a communique by his media aide, TUNDE RAHMAN.

According to the communique, TINUBU seeks the expansion of security personnel by 50,000 youths recruited into various national security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army, not the 50 million that was mentioned in error at his 69th birthday and 12th colloquium in Kano state.

It added that the crucial matter is that TINUBU rightly observed that such strong recruitment would serve the twin-purpose of helping to tackle unemployment while at the same time enhancing the security of every Nigerian.

FG Declares Friday, Monday Public Holiday To Mark Easter

The Federal Government has declared Friday 2nd and Monday 5th April 2021 public holidays to mark this year’s Easter Celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Director (Press & Public Relations) of the Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Manga, and issued on March 30, 2021.

In the statement, Aregbesola urged Christians to emulate the attributes of forbearance, forgiveness, kindness, humility, love, peace and patience, which were demonstrated by Jesus Christ.

The Minister urged them to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity, and progress of the country.

He assured that no stone will be left unturned as the Federal Government deals with kidnapping, armed banditry and other crimes and criminality which he says is perpetrated by enemies of Nigeria.

“Security is everybody’s business, I, therefore, encourage all Nigerians and foreigners resident in Nigeria, to display high level of patriotism at this critical time in the history of our country, to support the efforts of all security agencies in ensuring peace and security of lives and property of the citizenry,” he said.

He advised Nigerians to join hands with the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in its determination to make life more meaningful for all.

I didn’t support tenure elongation for Buhari- Lawan

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has debunked reports which alleged that he is favorably disposed to support a tenure extension for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Lawan in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media), Ola Awoniyi, in Abuja, said he firmly stands by the constitutional provision for term limit for elected public officers and would not support any move to amend the section.

The statement reads: “The Office of the President of the Senate has noted a tweet by one Cmr Mayor attributing a fabricated statement to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.

“In the mischievous tweet, the Senate President was quoted as saying he “won’t mind a constitutional amendment to allow unlimited term of office for President if President Buhari wishes to remain in office beyond 2023.”

“Our initial reaction was to ignore the ignoble mischief especially since it is not new, having been posted two years ago on 27 March 2019.

“But because the tweet has been trending again on social media, it becomes necessary to issue a formal rebuttal of its purport.

“We therefore say categorically that the Senate President has never made any such statement, before or after 2019.

“The old tweet which was entirely the handiwork of mischief makers is now being circulated again on social media by purveyors of fake news

“The 1999 Constitution has a firm position on the tenure of the President that reflects the popular stand of Nigerians”

Buhari Orders Service Chiefs To Take Out Bandits, Kidnappers

The National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno (retd.), on Tuesday quoted the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as directing the nation’s service chiefs to identify masterminds of banditry and kidnapping as well as the sponsors with a view to taking them out.

The NSA told State House correspondents that Buhari handed down the directive at a meeting he had with the service chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He quoted the President as saying that a situation where the armed forces are reactionary rather than being proactive will no longer be tolerated.

He added that President Buhari also insisted that all the decisions approved at the recently held National Security Council meeting, including the ban on mining activities in Zamfara and the no-fly-zone order, remain in force until further notice

Buhari met the service chiefs ahead of his trip to London for routine medical check-up.
