Kaduna Calls Reports Of Indefinite Postponement Of School Resumption Fake News

The Kaduna State government on Tuesday refuted reports of 'indefinite' suspension of resumption of academic activities in schools across the state.

The government says the information is false and lacks any basis.

Dr Shehu Muhammad, the Commissioner for Education, in a statement issued in Kaduna, described the information as fake news.

"The attention of the Kaduna State Ministry of Education has been drawn to a fake news report in circulation, alleging that the government has suspended the resumption of schools across the state indefinitely.

"The purported report attributed to Nasir El-Rufai declares that the governor made the declaration while addressing a stakeholders' meeting on Monday.

"That the resumption is suspended due to the ongoing aggressive military operation against bandits in most parts of the state.

"The Ministry of Education wishes to inform the public that the information is false and lacks any basis as the governor was neither in a meeting with stakeholders, nor made any disclosure of such nature to anyone," Muhammad said.

He recalled that the ministry had in a statement on July 15, announced that schools would be closed for 'three weeks' beginning from July 16.

This, he explained, was to enable the state to review the 2020/2021 Academic Calendar so that normal school activities could continue afterward.

"The state's stance on that has not changed. In view of the above, the Ministry of Education is urging the public to disregard the fake news report.

"The ministry is also warning those behind this heinous act of misinforming the public, to desist from it, or be prepared to face the wrath of the law," the commissioner said.

Senate Reinstates Sacked FUOYE Registrar, Olatunbosun Odusanya

Mr. Olatunbosun Odusanya, whose appointment as Registrar, Federal University, Oye Ekiti, was terminated by the institution’s council on April 25, said on Tuesday that the Senate order reinstating him was confirmation he was wrongly sacked.

Odusanya said, “My appointment was wrongfully terminated. I petitioned the university chairman, Dr, Mohammed Yahuza and the vice chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, before the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

“The Senate looked at the petition and said that the allegations against me were not strong enough to sack me and consequently ordered the university authorities on Tuesday to reinstate me within seven days.”

Odusanya, who spoke in a chat, said that the committee also ordered the university to reinstate the sacked bursar, Mrs. Bolatito Akande, within seven days.

He said, “The Senate made the pronouncement today (Tuesday) that I, Olatunbosun Odusanya, should be reinstated as Registrar, while Mrs. Bolatito Akande should also be reinstated as bursar and ordered FUOYE to report back to them within seven days.

“What happened at the Senate on Tuesday is confirmation of the fact that I was wrongly sacked by the council. The Senate looked at my petition and granted my request.

“The Senate also looked at Mrs. Akande’s petition and granted her request. I am happy.”

The university council, which initially suspended Odusanya from office in April 20 to pave way for investigation into the allegations of misconduct levelled against him over irregularities in appointments between 1st August 2020 and 10th February 2021, sacked him on April 25.

No Immediate Extradition As Cotonou Court Detains Sunday Igboho

The Beninese appeal court sitting in Cotonou has detained Yoruba Nation agitator, SUNDAY ADEYEMO, popularly called SUNDAY IGBOHO.

This was after court sessions which lasted for more than ten hours.

IGBOHO’s lawyers battled to secure bail for the activist but the court only granted him access to medical care after the marathon sessions which ended at about 11:20pm (Nigerian time).

The court sessions started at noon, but there were intermittent breaks during the hearing.

Details of the eventual judgement are still sketchy, but sources say the judgment means there will be no immediate extradition for the youth leader.

Journalists, monarchs, and supporters who came to court for the case were barred from witnessing his hearing.

IGBOHO and his wife, ROPO, were arrested at an airport in Cotonou last week, while on the way to Germany. The wife was however later released.
