Buhari Says That The Threat Issued By The Niger Delta Avengers Is Unnecessary

President BUHARI has said that the threat issued by the Niger Delta Avengers to resume hostilities is rather unnecessary. 

The President in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Mr. FEMI ADESINA, said that all issues raised by the group were already responded to when he met with the leadership of the Niger Delta and Ijaw National Congress in Abuja.

ADESINA said when the leaders of the Niger Delta and Ijaw National Congress visited the president, issues such as the call for restructuring and the inauguration of a board for the Niger Delta Development Commission were addressed.

He said the President is equally concerned about the rate of environmental degradation in the Niger delta.

According to him, the President has directed the Minister of Environment to ensure that the clean-up in Ogoni land are implemented with a high percentage of local content and inclusion of the surrounding communities.

The militant group, in a statement over the weekend, had announced the launch of 'operation humble', a new mission to resume attacks in the oil-rich region.

They said the south-south remains the most underdeveloped region in the country.

While reacting to the threat on a programme, Dr. EMMANUEL ABOLO said it was good that the federal government was diplomatic on the matter.

Buhari Tasks NASRDA To Use Satellite To Resolve Issues Confronting Nigeria

President BUHARI has tasked the National Space research and development agency to effectively utilize the satellite facilities at its disposal towards resolving the critical issues confronting Nigeria.

He particularly wants the agency to be more alive in the effective use of the satellite in the areas of insecurity confronting the nation as well as improved communication, Digital penetration and Agriculture.

The President gave this charge while chairing the 2021 national space council meeting at the state house, Abuja.

He further directed that the Twenty-five-year Road Map for the implementation of the National Space Policy be reviewed, updated, and forwarded to the Federal Executive council for consideration and approval.

The meeting was physically attended by some Ministers including Justice, ABUBAKAR MALAMI; Finance, ZAINAB AHMED; Education, ADAMU ADAMU and Information and culture, LAI MOHAMMED; and that of Science and Technology, OGBONNAYA ONU.

Yemi Osinbajo Says Government Is Making Efforts To Beef Up Its Response To The Nation’s Security Challenges

Vice President, Professor YEMI OSINBAJO, has said that the Federal Government is making concerted efforts to beef up its response to the nation's security challenges.

He listed the recent supplementary budget sent to the National Assembly on enhancing the capacity of the military and other security agencies as part of such moves.

Professor OSINBAJO stated this when he received the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, Oba ADEOLA AJAKAIYE, in company with the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, NIYI ADEBAYO, and Senator OPEYEMI BAMIDELE at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He stressed the need for traditional rulers, as well as local and state governments to collaborate with the Federal Government in tackling insecurity in the land.

The Vice President explained that it was important to take decisive action at the community level because most of the problems occur there.

In his remarks, Oba AJAKAIYE thanked the Vice President for granting them an audience and listening to their demands, including support for the establishment of a Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in the community.

We’ve Spent N35bn On Payment Of Pension, Gratuities Since 2018 – Gov Oyetola

Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun, on Wednesday, said that his administration had spent N35 billion on payment of pensions and gratuities of retirees in the state since 2018.

According to him, the state spends N509 million monthly to cater for pensioners under the old pension scheme and the contributory pension scheme.

Oyetola expressed his administration’s commitment to uplifting the standard of living of all categories of workers by making their welfare a topmost priority.

He said that government had recently released the sum of N1.64 billion for the payment of outstanding pension and gratuity of retired civil servants.

The governor, who described civil servants as the engine room of government, said that his administration would not relent in its avowed commitment to continuously paying workers’ entitlements, despite the harsh economic condition.

“As a government, we will not relent in prioritizing the welfare of our active and retired workers in the state.

“We will continue to pay workers’ entitlements despite the harsh economic condition, arising from the country’s economic challenges.

“In all, from 2018 till date, we have spent about N35 billion to cater for all categories of pensioners.

“I will, therefore, like to urge our senior citizens to continue to show understanding and support our government in its efforts at repositioning the state and stimulate its economy for prosperity and abundance,” the governor said.

Earlier, the Head of Service, Dr Festus Oyebade, thanked the governor for standing by workers, both active and retired.

In their separate remarks, the pioneer President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Hassan Sunmonu and the pioneer Secretary to the State Government and Head of Service, Mr Moses Aboaba, commended the governor for not defaulting on the payment of salaries and pensions since his assumption of office.

The duo also expressed gratitude to the state government for sustaining the payment of full wages, salaries and pensions.
