Miyetti Allah Says Cows May Cost N2m Each

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association has said that a cow could cost up to N2 million in Lagos State if the anti-grazing bill is passed into law in the state.

Zonal Secretary of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the South West, during a one-day public hearing organised by the state House of Assembly on the anti-open grazing bill, Usman appealed to the state government for assistance, noting that ranching is more expensive than open grazing.

Usman, who agreed that there were some criminally-minded herders, argued that raising a cow in one location could increase the price of a cow to as much as N2 million.

He also pleaded with the government to subsidize the cost of raising the cattle in one location.

VAT: FIRS Loses, Lagos Joins Tax War As Rivers Digs In

In Rivers the state government has insisted that it will do all within the law to stop the Federal Government from collecting Value Added Tax (VAT).

Other state governments like those of Akwa Ibom and Adamawa have also aligned themselves with the move by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Lagos state has also said it would go ahead with the VAT bill, which passed second reading in the state House of Assembly.

The states say the collection of VAT by them is the only way of reducing their dependence on federal allocations.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service had prayed the court to stay execution on the judgment but the presiding judge, Justice Stephen Pam, rejected the application, saying granting it would negate the principle of equity.

Peaking on Inspiration FM’s All Out Politics, Former Director General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Dr. Muda Yusuf said the federal government lacks the right structure for fair distribution.

Simon Lalong Relaxes Curfew Imposed Earlier

Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has further relaxed the curfew imposed earlier on Jos North Local Government Area from 10pm to 6am.

Lalong who announced this in a statement also said the ban earlier placed on the operations of tricycles has been lifted.

It would be recalled that the curfew and ban on tricycles were invoked by the government in the wake of the recent attacks and killings in some parts of the state.

The statement signed by the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Macham Makut said the current status of the curfew in Jos South and Bassa Local Government Areas which still remains from 10pm to 6am.

However, the ban on motorcycles within the Jos/Bukuru Metropolis remains intact.

He said states, especially those from southern parts of the country, should put sentiments aside and work towards a federation that is one, by being their brothers’ keepers in sharing the VAT generated in their respective states.

PDP Governors Hold Crunch Extraordinary Meeting Today Over Secondus, APC

Governors elected under the aegis of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are set to hold a pre-emptive extraordinary today ahead of their National Executive Council (NEC) tomorrow.

The party has been embroiled in crisis over the controversies surrounding its embattled and now suspended National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.

According to the notice of the meeting, the governors reassured Nigerians of PDP’s determination to dislodge the failed APC government it said had imposed misery and pain on citizens.

The Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Hon. C.I.D Maduabum, who sent out the notice said that the meeting would focus on party affairs and strategies for repositioning the group.

Titled “PDP Governors Meet on Party Issues Ahead of NEC meeting,” Maduabum’s notice indicated that the meeting would be held at the instance of the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum  and Sokoto State’s Governor, the Rt Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, as well as his 12 colleague governors.
