 Lagos,  Osun, Ogun  Lead As JAMB Unveils Top 10 UTME Candidates

A candidate from Lagos State, Monwuba Chibuikem, has emerged as the overall best candidate at the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination with a top score of 358.

The information was contained in a document shared by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board at its policy meeting held on Tuesday.

According to the document, Qomarudeen Alabi from Osun and Adeogun Oreoluwa from Ogun jointly came second as they both scored 350.

Ajayi Isaiah from Lagos took the fourth position with a score of 349 while Okarike Kenneth from Rivers  came fifth with 348.

The trio of Omonona Victor, Owoeye Oluwatimilehin, and Ehizogie Aidelogie cane sixth with 347 while Ajeigbe Samuel and Yakubu Joshua (Edo) had 346 and 343 respectively to complete the top 10.

A breakdown of the top 10 candidates by their states of origin showed Lagos, Edo and Ekiti had the highest with two students each while Osun, Oyo, Ogun and Rivers had one each.

The gender composition of the top 10 candidates also revealed that the list had nine males with only one female making it.

PDP Reps Reject Emergency Rule In Benue

The PDP Benue caucus in the House of Representatives has cautioned Senator George Akume against his utterances concerning the governor of the state, Samuel Ortom.

At a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, Representative Mark Gbillah, leader of the caucus said it was displeased with the language deployed by Mr George Akume, former governor of the state when he addressed a news conference on August 30.

At the news conference, Akume asked the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on Benue State over alleged failure of leadership on the part of Governor Samuel Ortom.

Gbillah said that the caucus rejected the call for a state of emergency while calling on Akume to exercise caution and embrace dialogue with the state government.

Don’t Set Nigeria Ablaze With Incendiary Rhetoric, FG Warns Leaders

The federal government has warned political and religious leaders to stop “spewing incendiary rhetoric” capable of setting the country ablaze.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, gave the admonition while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Sal Island, Cape Verde.

NAN reports that the minister is in Cape Verde to attend the 64th Conference of the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Commission for Africa and the Second Edition of the UNWTO Global Tourism Investment Forum.

The minister also cautioned the media, particularly broadcast stations, to abide by broadcast code and other regulations guiding them.

The minister said the National Broadcasting Commission and other regulators would ensure that broadcast stations abide by statutory laws and ethics.

Why I Sacked Power, Agric Ministers – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said the Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, and his Agricultural counterpart, Mohammed Nanono, were disengaged in a bid to reinvigorate the cabinet.

President Buhari stated this in his address during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari stopped short of saying the former ministers’ contributions to his government were weak.

Adesina said mamman and Nanono were sacked after an independent and critical review of their performance.
