Governor El-Rufai Says Northern Governors Didn’t Oppose Power Shift To South In 2023

Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has clarified that the Northern States Governors' Forum did not oppose the presidency going to the south in 2023, rather it is against the language and tone used in the resolution of the southern governors on the issue of power shift.

He said that northern governors were alarmed that their counterparts from the south used the word 'must' in their push  for power shift to the south after President Muhammadu Buhari's tenure in 2023.

El-Rufai stated that the word 'must' is at variance with democracy which is characterised by negotiations and horse-trading by parties involved, often out of public glare.
The governor recalled that he and "some other northern governors had earlier called for power shift in 2023 in their individual capacities in order to foster national unity and togetherness'', adding that "I was called names by our people for making that call."

It also said that Nigerians without NIN would soon be barred from acquiring driving licences and passports.

This NCC made this position known in a statement titled 'NIN-SIM Integration: NCC sensitises telecom consumers on October 31 Deadline' signed by NCC's Director of Public Affairs, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde.

The statement read, "NCC has reminded and urged telecoms consumers to link their NINs with their SIMs before the expiration of the deadline of October 31, 2021 set by the Federal Government."

The commission urged Nigerians to make use of the extension of the NIN-SIM integration exercise to October 31, 2021, to enrol with NIMC, get their NINs and link them to their SIMs, warning that people without NIN will be denied of necessary services that play vital roles in their lives including acquisition of driving licence, passport.

Oyo Applies To Join Rivers In VAT Battle Against FIRS At Court Of Appeal

The Oyo Sate government has filed an application before the Court of Appeal in Abuja to join in the suit between the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Rivers state government over who has the constitutional power to collect Value Added Tax (VAT)

A federal high court in Port Harcourt had issued an order restraining the FIRS from collecting VAT and personal income tax (PIT) in Rivers state.

Consequently, FIRS went to the court of appeal.

Rivers is challenging the directive of the appeal court at the supreme court. The state asked the apex court to order that the substantive appeal by the FIRS, marked CA/PH/282/2021, and all other processes therein, be heard and determined by a new panel of the court of appeal.

In a fresh application filed on September 27, Oyo state government is also seeking "an order of the honourable court joining the attorney-general of Oyo state as a respondent on the appeal with suit number FHC/PH/CS/149/2020 and appeal number CA/PH/282/2021, and any other order the court may deem fit."
