Hoodlums Set Vehicle Ablaze In Enugu

A vehicle conveying vegetables, tomatoes and other perishable foodstuff has been set ablaze by unknown persons in Enugu.

It was learnt that the incident occurred at Edem Junction, Ibeagwa, Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area l and the vehicle was said to be coming from the Ugwogo end of the Opi/Enugu bypass when it was blocked and set on fire by the marauding hoodlums.

Sympathizers were said to have put a call to the State Fire Service prompting a quick response by the Ogui Road fire service station, who quickly rushed to the scene.

The Public Relations Officer of Enugu state police command,, Daniel Ndukwe, could not be reached to give further details but a senior police officer, while confirming the incident, noted the perpetrators were only trying to instil fears in the minds of the people, who had stopped obeying the sit-at-home order, which has since lost its potency as residents have been going about their lawful duties without fear of reprisals and attacks.

Edo Government Approves State Burial For Music Maestro Late Sir Victor Uwaifo

The Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki, Osaigbovo Iyoha, has said the Edo State Government plans to organise a state burial for veteran musician and academic, Sir Victor Uwaifo who died on August 28.

The 80-year-old ‘Joromi’ crooner, according to his family, died of chest infection at Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.

The deceased studied at UNIBEN, where he begged a First Class in Applied Arts at 54, a Master's Degree in Sculpture at 56 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Architectural Sculpture at 77.

According to the government statement, the Governor has approved a state burial for an illustrious and dearly beloved Edo music icon, Prof. Sir Victor Uwaifo.

The statement added that the Edo State Government was working closely with the family of Prof. Uwaifo to ensure a seamless state burial and that arrangements are in full swing to honour the late legend of Nigerian music.

10 Kaduna Baptist School Students Set Free As Eleven Remain In Captivity

Ten students abducted from Bethel Baptist High School, Damishi, Kaduna, have been released, after spending close to 12 weeks in captivity.

Suspected bandits had, on July 5, invaded the school located about six kilometers from Kaduna metropolis, and abducted 121 students.

Some of the students were freed in batches, while others escaped from captivity.

With the latest development, a total of 100 students have been freed, with ransom of over N200 million reportedly paid to the kidnappers by the parents.

ASUU To Meet Next Week Over Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has said its National Executive Council would meet next week to discuss its options on whether to proceed on strike or not following the inability of the Federal Government to address some of its pressing demands.

Disclosing the position of ASUU, it's National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, said Nigerians should not blame lecturers if universities are shut again.

Inspiration FM recalls that ASUU had issued ultimatum to the Federal Government and accused the government of deliberately ignoring its demands.

On its part, the Federal Government said it was working hard on making sure that the demands of ASUU were met.
