Drama As EFFC Operatives Battle Prison Officials Over Maina

There was a mild drama on the premises of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, after the former chairperson of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, ABDULRASHEED MAINA was convicted and sentenced to eight years' imprisonment.

Inspiration FM reports that the judge, Justice OKON ABANG, ordered that the terms of imprisonment for all the 12 counts shall run concurrently from October 25, 2019, the date the convict was arraigned.

The judge, who ruled that MAINA must refund money running over a billion naira to the federal government coffers, among others, also ordered that the company used for the unlawful act be wound up.

However, as the officers of the Correctional Centre, Kuje, were taking MAINA out of the court premises amid tight security, EFCC operatives drove two vehicles into the premises, blocking the correctional centre's Hilux van.

The development led to hot arguments between the two opposing personnel as they corked their rifles in defence.

However, the prison officers stood their ground, refusing to allow the EFCC operatives, some of whom came in police uniform, to whisk MAINA away

Lagos Police Command Faces Fire Over Shooting Of APC Leaders

The Lagos police Command is facing criticism over the arrest of one SHAKIRU OWOLABI YUSUF in connection with a deadly shooting at a meeting of APC leaders in Oriade Local Council Development Area in July this year.

YUSUF is being detained by the AIG Special Enquiry Bureau, under the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon, for the alleged murder of one KAYODE SAMUEL OGUNBIYI, popularly known as EPO.

However; YUSUF has denied the allegation, and his family has accused the police of detaining the wrong person because of failure to pay a bribe of one hundred thousand naira.

YUSUF's brother, JAMIU said his brother was best friends with late KAYODE SAMUEL, adding that he also helped to move him to hospital after he was shot during the incident in Kuje-Amuwo on July 8, 2021.

JAMIU YUSUF said he was surprised that the police turned around to arrest his brother after they invited him on three different occasions to help with the investigation

The sixty-five-year-old mother accused the police of detaining her son because he does not have anyone to speak for him.

On his part; the family's lawyer, UCHE UDOGARANYA, said after visiting the police station, he discovered that his client was being detained on the basis of a rumour.

However, when our correspondent called the telephone line of the Investigating Police Officer, one ABIDEEN WALE, he said he was not in a position to respond to the accusation of extortion the family made against him.
